We also should avoid terms like upper-left, as in a right-to-left environment it would be the top right cell instead. Eike -- LibreOffice Calc developer. And I agree that the current message is very awkward. Heh, having run into that message more than few times in the past month, I, too, agree about its awkwardness. One more suggestion from the peanut gallery: Don't use No and Yes, but rather something more action-oriented, like Merge cells and Cancel. Jeff Waugh had an excellent presentation and visual (circa 2006/7) to show what the user sees, but of course my google is poor this evening. The summary is The entire dialog box is blurred/not readable, and the only visible parts are the buttons; the user should still be able to discern what action each button executes. That said, I'm clearly not a UI fella, and it was suggested elsewhere in this thread that this might be a UI issue ... A new string however should somehow describe that when the question is answered with yes then * all content of to be merged cells will be removed * all content will be concatenated * this new concatenated content will be placed into the first cell of the merged cells merge contents of all cells lacks information, my suggestion would be Should the contents of all merged cells be concatenated and moved into the first cell? [Libreoffice] [PATCH] make STR_MERGE_NOTEMPTY more understandable
Hello I think the STR_MERGE_NOTEMPTY (in sc/source/ui/src/globstr.src ; used in Calc when merging cells) is not very understandable for common users : Should the contents of the hidden cells be moved into the first cell? I think Would you like to merge the contents of all cells? would be better. This is my first contribution to libreoffice, feel free to tell me if I did something wrong.
