Also, check what you have on 'Tools-Options-...Office-Fonts' in the
'Replacement table' for both LO and AOO.

Try to enlarge Euro symbol and change the font to something easily
distinguishable (eg. any other amateurish font w/o Euro sign).

This version of the Avant Guard font doesn't have a glyph for Euro.

but why does it work with OpenOffice?
Can you check with that font on the same machine with both LO and AOO?
There is no Euro glyph in the font you provided link to.
