I have discovered a workaround for both versions of LibreOffice 3.6.2.2 3.6.4
(Version 3.6.4.3 (Build ID: 2ef5aff))

Balthasar: perhaps an Ubuntu packaging problem, could you try to uninstall
Ubuntu LO package and give a try to LO packages from here:
FYI: latest stable version in 3.6.X is 3.6.4

On pc Debian x86-64 with 3.6 sources updated some days ago, I did:
- open writer
- drag and a drop a png image
- put cursor just after the image at the beginning of the line
- Menu Insert

Not reproducible on LO 3.6.2.2 Win XP SP3.
1. A new Writer document created.
2. An image from desktop has been dragged.
3. No dialog box has appeared.
4. Saved image without a problem.
