Maxim, thank you fo the reply
my first post came after tests on version 4.0 under Ubuntu and openSuse
Now, under Ubuntu 12.04, this is the output with LO Stable and LO Fresh, taken
from ppa

$ libreoffice --version

$ libreoffice --headless --convert-to odt /home/raimondo/TEMPLATE.ott

convert /home/raimondo/TEMPLATE.ott - /home/raimondo/TEMPLATE.odt using
OpenDocument Text Flat XML
Overwriting: /home/raimondo/TEMPLATE.odt
$ file TEMPLATE.odt

Same output with LO from deb (
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ )
$ libreoffice4.2 --version
LibreOffice 4.2.5.2 61cb170a04bb1f12e77c884eab9192be736ec5f5
$ libreoffice4.2 --headless --convert-to odt /home/raimondo/TEMPLATE.ott
convert /home/raimondo/TEMPLATE.ott - /home/raimondo/TEMPLATE.odt using

Overwriting: /home/raimondo/TEMPLATE.odt

Is there something else I'm missing?

Thanks for the ping..encourages me to observe more deeply :)

I just found what is responsible for the problem: Use printer metrics for text
formatting enabled. I always enable that setting though I don't really know
the actual usability.

Since LO 3.6.x until 4.3.0.1, that setting generates that weird problem:
overlapping / misalignment.

But that setting doesn't generate the problem in LO 3.5.7.2, OOO 3.3.0, AOO
4.1.0.

I'll observe the printer metrics thing in other bugs.

I would generally agree with this proposal. The two related help pages
indicate:

https://help.libreoffice.org/Calc/Goal_Seek

... solve an equation with a variable.

https://help.libreoffice.org/Calc/Solver

... solve equations with multiple unknown variables by goal seeking methods.

The Calc 4.1 User Guide pp.265-266 further supports this:

... using Tools Goal Seek you can discover what values will produce
the result that you want. (p.265)

Tools Solver amounts to a more elaborate form of Goal Seek. The
difference is that the Solver deals with equations with multiple
 unknown variables. (p.266)

Consistent language / terminology across dialogs would help make this clearer
to the end user. Status set to NEW.

After observing Bug 66089, I found same cause for this problem: Use printer

It begins since LO 3.6.x until 4.3.0.1.

But if we disable printer metrics, alignment not working at all on cells

Hi,

What I did:
Create a xlsx in LibO, open it in Excel, add a pic, close it, open it in LibO
created (and always inserted) a pic and saved it. This works fine, until I add
the first hyperlink in Excel. LibO opens it, but when adding a hyperlink now MS
cannot open it.
It seems a bit buggy on their side, because they remove the hyperlinks [which
they say in the report generated] and the pictures are gone as well...

But I see the bug ;)

(In reply to comment #6)
The 0 (zero) shown as ###' occur with ms excel files with accounting
 number format.
It fixed by modifying number format created by ms Excel to LO style (by
removing the asterisk on number format),
It's the only clue we have currently.

2. In cell format dialog (Ctrl+1, tab Font) Language is English (USA).

Current behavior:
The text is underlined as misspelled. There's no visible way to assign the

If the comments are visible on screen - they are also visible on the same place
on the print AND on the following sheet. Not visible comments only print on the

But I have a problem that there is no footer on the print at all. On print
preview the page-number is correct. Header always correct.

In my opinion the problem is different printer drivers.

create 1 bugtracker per bug.
Then describe precisely the problem (step by step process) and attach a file so

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 77755] Items in Status Bars have different locations between different components.

2014-06-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77755

--- Comment #12 from Owen Genat owen.ge...@gmail.com ---
I agree with Daniel (OP). This report is about consistency in location of
information rather that what information is displayed or how it is accessed.
There is obviously enough space available because the status bar, regardless of
component, has the same length. The mockups clearly illustrate what is
possible. I think this can be confirmed and set to NEW.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 75309] FILEOPEN: Legend position lost when importing/exporting MS .docx charts

2014-06-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75309

--- Comment #3 from ign_christian ign_christ...@yahoo.com ---
Hi Luke..

I think this report is too general, different type of chart could produce
different result. And this contains 2 main bugs: export import, usually it's
separated.

It's better if you could give step by step procedure to create particular
chart. Anyway, perhaps it's been reported before? Looks like many bugs
regarding chart legend.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 80626] New: Jamming of LibreOffice 4.25 Download

2014-06-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80626

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 80626
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Jamming of LibreOffice 4.25 Download
  Severity: critical
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Windows (All)
  Reporter: aemor...@myplace.net.au
  Hardware: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.2.5.2 release
 Component: Libreoffice
   Product: LibreOffice

Yesterday, the download of LibreOffice 4.25 proceeded ok but a window
opened, suggesting that it might take a few minutes and nothing else happened.
It seemed to have jammed at that point and now I cannot access anything on
LibreOffice, including all of my stored documents, and especially the draft
layout of a new book I need to urgently edit before passing it on to the
publisher next week.

I need to have this problem fixed urgently.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 59961] counting characters per line in status bar

2014-06-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59961

--- Comment #9 from Owen Genat owen.ge...@gmail.com ---
This report would appear to be a duplicate of bug 59791. Character and column
position are the same thing and the translation of subtitles for TV are
mentioned in both. There are however more links and information in this later
report e.g., Apache OO issue, words per line, cycling through various
information displays, using a tooltip, etc. It may be more prudent to close the
earlier bug as a duplicate of this one. I will leave this for Cor, Joren, or
Miguel to best determine how QA want to handle this.

(In reply to comment #0)
As the actual page's page number is an optional thing to be displayed, i
think the better means of displaying the actual page's number is after and
not before and to always show it, even if its equal to the numbered page
 number. e.g. 'Page 5 / 302 ( 1 )', 'Page 5 / 302 ( v )'. I also think a
tooltip would be quite useful to explain this.

There needs to be some way of visually discriminating between the two and this
would seem one method. Word keeps details relating to the current page
together, which I feel makes more sense. LO could use p. iv | Page 4 / 302
and then p. 1 | Page 5 / 302. Confirmed. Status set to NEW.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 80631] New: BASIC: Error in table navigation

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 80631

Summary: BASIC: Error in table navigation
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Windows (All)
  Reporter: delt...@vodafone.co.nz
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.1.6.2 release
 Component: BASIC
   Product: LibreOffice

Problem description:
Normal navigation within a table is to tab from cell to cell. If the cell
contains content that has internal tabbing (bullets, numbers), navigation stops
and continued tabbing creates tabs within the cell where the first tab was
encountered.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a standard table (3 columns by 3 rows) and fill the cells with text,
making sure to have multiple paragraphs within the cells.
2. In one of the middle cells, number the paragraphs.
3. Starting in the upper-left cell, tab from cell to cell.

Current behavior:
The tab-to-cell behaviour will stop as soon as the internal tabs of the
bulleted paragraphs is encountered.

Expected behavior:
Pressing the tab character should take the user to the next cell within the
table. Additionally, the total content of the cell should be selected.

Launching a dialog eg. Format - Paragraph in writer takes a noticeable time
until the dialog is ready.

Running a callgrind profile on 4x of these dialog launches it can be seen that
there is a lot of goodness going on.

Seemingly we have 33 bn cycles in Window::get_preferred_size
30 bn cycles from VclContainer::get_layout_requisition

with 30k calls of that - which seems quite intense.

Then again - quite probably callgrind is lying to me - the profile looks
somewhat suspicious; either way - investigating.

Could you give a try to 4.2.5?

Do LO and Java you use are both 32 or 64? Indeed, if one is 32 bit and the

578 - says to click a button, but the image that should show which button is
missing
1228 - says to click the 'edit file' button
3998 - suggests the user should click the save and not open button in their
browser

From these examples, even when the 'edit file' button is there, people still
dont know to press it, thats why a infobar is still a great idea.

  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)

Minimal example (image fails to appear)

Hello,

In the attached minimal example, there is an image implemented as a hyperlink
to
http://www.powerguru.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Magnetic-circuit-current-sensor.jpg

I expect that the image should be downloaded and displayed, but downloading
seems to fail. This is strange because the following command is able to
download the image successfully:

$ wget --user-agent=LibreOffice
http://www.powerguru.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Magnetic-circuit-current-sensor.jpg

Could you please correct LibreOffice so that it is able to download images from
the site mentioned above?

Thank you,

Olivier

Something as simple as 5 underbrace 5 in the equation editor in Writer will
not render correctly in Windows 8.1.

I've just updated to 4.2.5.2 to double check, and the updates so far haven't
addressed this yet.

because it's still lacking my most needed feature
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Windows (All)
  Reporter: couga...@gmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.2.5.2 release
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

Problem description:

I've been writing to you guys since Open Office was first released, because I
need a feature that is entirely required for my work. At the beginning, I
didn't feel comfortable about Bugzilla, so I wrote to OpenOffice through the
website or comments--I don't remember what. When I posted recently, it was
marked as a duplicate and I found some of the other people who also need this
feature.

The feature is LIBRE OFFICE WRITER IS UNUSABLE BY ME AS A PROFESSIONAL WRITER
UNTIL IT HAS A FULLY FUNCTIONAL OUTLINER.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Microsoft Word. Open any document which has headers and paragraphs. A
large document with Headers 1, 2, and 3 would do very well.
2. Click: ViewOutliner.
3. In the Show Outline Level drop-down box on the Outlining Toolbar, click
Show Level 1.
4. Notice the button icons in front of all of the Header 1 titles that show up
on the screen.
5. Click one of these button icons using your left mouse button.
6. Hold the mouse button down and drag that header to a new location by moving
it up or down in the document.
7. In the Show Outline Level drop-down box, click Show Level 2.
8. Notice the hierarchy of titles that appears on the screen. Notice that it
looks like the Navigator in LO, and that the Level 2 titles are indented.
9. Within each one of the sections of the document, use the method in step #6
to rearrange the subsections. In other words, click and drag subsections to new
locations anywhere in the section or in the document.
10. Repeat this entire process with Level 3.
11. In the Show Outline Level drop-down box, click Show All Levels.
12. Notice that all paragraphs are now showing.
13. Click the button on the Outline toolbar that has a tool tip that says,
Show First Line Only. This may be by default to the right of the Show
Outline Level drop-down box.
14. Notice that now only one line shows from every paragraph. Notice how this
unclutters the screen.
15. Within each one of these base sections of the document, use the method in
step #6 to rearrange the paragraphs. In other words, click and drag paragraphs
to new locations anywhere in the section or in the document.
16. Try using this system to organize a to-do list, an organization list from
any organization, a brainstorm list, notes from a technical meeting, etc.
17. Do this by creating Level 3 headers. Drag notes from the raw brainstorm
list into the headers. When necessary, collapse individual headers to keep the
screen neat and tidy.
18. When your raw list is completely organized, collapse all header 3s so that
only the header 3s show. Paragraphs no longer show at all. This looks just like
the Navigator in LO.
19 Create Header 2s. Organize all of the Header 3s into Header 2s.
20. Repeat this process to organize all of the Header 2s into Header 1s.
21. Click Show All Levels.
22. Change the view to Print or Normal.
23. Read through the now perfectly organized document and write the final
version from it.

Current behavior: None of the above.

Expected behavior: All of the above.

Hi

Thank you for the report.

First of all, Writer is not a clone of Word, so don't expect to have same
behaviour. If you want Word, it's not the right place.

In other term, we won't copy Word.

If you want a new feature, explain this as a need, what you need to do, not
what you want to do (especially if you want to copy other software behaviour).

Thanks

Thank you for the reminder :-)

Tested again with LO 4.2.6.0+ and LO 4.3.0.1.0+ under Ubuntu 14.04 x86-64.
- in LO 4.2.6.0+ the diagram is updated when I change the second value of the
data range if I am not fast enough to change the first value after the second
one.
- in LO 4.3.0.1.0+ the diagram is not updated until I click the OK button or I
move to the other tab of the dialog. I did try to change the second data range
value and wait doing nothing, the diagram is not updated. I guess that the
solution proposed by Kohei in comment #7 has been implemented, but I can't be
sure. So closing as WorksForMe.

FEATURE REQUEST

I DON'T WANT YOU TO COPY WORD. I WANT YOU TO UNDERSTAND THE FUNCTIONALITY, SO
I'VE TOLD YOU HOW IT WORKS IN WORD. I COULD HAVE USED OTHER OUTLINERS AS
EXAMPLES AS WELL. HOWEVER, DEVELOPERS DON'T UNDERSTAND A FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
OF THIS PROCESS, APPARENTLY, SO I PROVIDED AN EXAMPLE. THIS FUNCTIONALITY CAN
BE IMPLEMENTED IN ANY WAY THAT YOU WISH, BUT WITHOUT IT, LIBREOFFICE IS
SUBSTANDARD.

When I wrote this, I intended it as a feature request, not a bug. The reality
is that I can never use your writer software until you have an outliner
feature. I've used outliners as a full-time professional writer since the 1980s
with PCOutline, and I moved to Word when they improved on it.

I wrote this extensive feature request because I'm a professional writer, and
until you have this functionality, I consider your product substandard, and I
tell everyone else that I talk about it to that your product is substandard.

I used PCOutline in the 80s as a full-time professional magazine journalist. I
used Word's outliner in the 90s as a full-time professional senior technical
writer for such organizations as Fujitsu Software.

I've used it on contract jobs in the 2000s. As a retired full-time writer
working on both fiction and nonfiction, I use an outliner daily, and I will not
be able to use your substandard product until you provide a professional
outliner.

Just duplicate the functionality of PCOutline from the 80s, and I'll use your
product. It will still be substandard, because PCOutline doesn't have drag and
drop.

I DON'T WANT YOU TO COPY WORD. I WANT YOU TO UNDERSTAND THE FUNCTIONALITY, SO
I'VE TOLD YOU HOW IT WORKS IN WORD.

DEVELOPERS DON'T UNDERSTAND WRITERS, WHICH IS WHY I WAS A PROFESSIONAL SENIOR
TECHNICAL WRITER DURING THE 90S.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 77951] FORMATTING: Enhancement Request - Specify number of significant figures, not just decimal places.

2014-06-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77951

--- Comment #5 from Jean-Baptiste Faure jbf.fa...@sud-ouest.org ---
I think it is a false good idea because in some case there is no valid display.
For example with data like 120, 34.567 and 0.000890, if you want 3 significant
digit you will get 120, 34.5 and 0.00 which does not render the data correctly.

I agree that the scientific formatting suffers of aesthetic drawbacks but it is
always correct.

So I suggest to close this enhancement request as WontFix.

Hi Cougar,

Can you send in a sample document so that i can open it up in Word and see the
outline feature that you wish to be added.

I think LibreOffice does have an outline feature as can be seen at
http://blog.worldlabel.com/2012/outlining-in-libreoffice-writer.html .

With the CTL Arabic UI enabled in Linux, if you open up the options dialog, the
java path root folder '/' appears on the wrong end for some strange reason.
This behavior isnt consistent as the root folder '/' for the online update

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 80647] New: request to add Nelder Mead simplex to SOLVER for small dimension non-linear problems

2014-06-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80647

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 80647
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: request to add Nelder Mead simplex to SOLVER for small
dimension non-linear problems
  Severity: enhancement
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Windows (All)
  Reporter: charlesl...@sbcglobal.net
  Hardware: x86 (IA32)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.2.4.2 release
 Component: Spreadsheet
   Product: LibreOffice

I have been trying to use the solver in Calc to find the minimum of a
non-linear function calculated in the spreadsheet found here:
http://claub.net/temp/Solver-crashes-CALC.xls

The optimized quantity is a sum-of-squares error, cell A134, and the value in
this cell should fall to 10 or less. I set up the solver to find a minimum by
manipulating the values in cells F13 through F17. The initial values I choose
are F13=1.0 and the other set to zero. I am using Calc under Windows 8, version
4.2.4.2, Build ID: 63150712c6d317d27ce2db16eb94c2f3d7b699f8.

I have tried both the DEPS and SCO algorithms. The solver runs for what seems
like a long time (more than a minute on my machine) and makes some progress
reducing the error. Then it, and calc, crash and close. This happens every
time.

What I find strange is that I can run this exact same problem with the same
initial conditions using the Excel solver (GRG nonlienar algorithm) and it
finishes in about 1-2 seconds and never crashes.

The Calc SOLVER really should include a basic, Nelder-Mead simplex based,
non-linear optimization option. This works very reliably for non-pathological
optimization problems of modest dimension (e.g. less than 15-20 variables). I
have applied that algorithm to the problem in the spreadsheet linked above with
100% success for instance, and it would be much faster than these bizarre
evolutionary algorithms for my 5-variable problem. I have some experience
coding the Nelder-Mead algorithm and know of some slight modifications from the
literature that help it to work better than the original implementation and
that keep it from crashing in the case that the simplex collapses or a
duplicate point (within machine precision) is created during the minimization.
Please contact me for details here:
http://audio.claub.net/contact_form.html

Adding the (very reliable) Nelder Mead simplex algorithm to the available
non-linear optimization engines in the Solver would round out its capabilities
nicely and should not be difficult to code (the algorithm is not complicated).

Thanks,

Charlie

A workaround for saving the text and images in an ODT document is the

1) With Firefox: save the web page to disk, load the page from disk, select the
desired text and images, copy with CTRL-C
2) Paste to LibreOffice with CTRL-V

Are you having trouble reproducing this bug with the attachment 94493? I just
tested with 4.4 and it's still reproducible.

What part of my instructions can't you follow or are not clear? Every chart
type and chart data that I've tried has yields this bug. The key to triggering
this bug is moving the legend without using the defaults in the dialog box(top,
left, right, bot). How much more specific do you need?

It's true that someone needs to isolate the cause of this bug, but that's
beyond what I'm capable of.

as summarized, in some localized LO editions some of the symbols are missing

it seems to be platform independent as it has been verified on windows 7 / 8

even the examples at the elements dock are lacking of the original greek signs.

maybe a re-occurrence of #37869, but i guess 64945 is the interesting one to
