Generally I can do without it, but it's handy, and I wanted to use it for a special reason today. I couldn't see how to make it work, and I think it's a bug. Others seem to have the same problem, or a similar problem, so I believe it's a wide-spread issue - - - Anyway, I composed a test file while trying out the feature with the new release installation, and it's attached. In addition to everything disappearing, it lost the second page (which didn't have anything written on it, but it was there) as well between saving, closing, and opening it again. Additional note: I tried just now to start working on the same document again, as the page was blank, so I thought I'd start over. I added a text box in the upper left hand corner, typed in text, made it bold and centered it, then tried to move the text box slightly. It completely disappeared. The Edit function (undo text box move, I think it said) seemed to think the text box was there somewhere, but nothing reappeared. I created an odt file with a style having a solid black background. The height is indeed not correct. I renamed the file *.zip, open the archive and I edited the style.xml file to have a background #01 instead of #00. I renamed the edited archive *.odt. Now the background height returns to it's correct behavior. However, this is rather tedious and hit-miss, as the desired affect does not always result after hitting OK, and you may have to do several RMB-Text cycles before the text moves to the desired location. (costing a lot of time) It would be best if such text were given a mini handle that becomes visible when hovered oversimilar to what is provided for glue points. That would allow precise, real-time placement, without the need to guess, retry. When I opened it in OpenOffice, all the text reappeared! I added a couple of things then looked at it in Page Preview and - nothing. Blank page. Exported it as a .pdf - blank page. Closed it and re-opened the same .odt document in LibreOffice - blank page. Closed and re-opened again in OpenOffice - all there, except not in Page Preview. Took screen shots out of curiosity, pasted them into a new OpenOffice .odt document - shows up just fine, including in Page Preview and when exported as a .pdf. Opened the .odt screenshot in LibreOffice, and all it showed was two boxes with a note in the upper left corners: graphics1 and graphics2. So for the .odt document, LibreOffice shows nothing, OpenOffice shows all text except in Page Preview. Handling that for the translation process would be possible without major problems. SO that is the good part. Now to the bad part: As long as the tooltip text is also completely used in the help you will ahve the traslators complaining and/or vetoing that change. More or less the solution that we have right now is that we also migrate the help to the wiki and drop all non-visible tooltips from the help which only leaes the ones that are also used in the help texts. First, the easy and obvious one, which we all no doubt already use: keep a copy of 4.3.x handy for exporting to PDF. Advantage: the output is always what we expect. Disadvantages: it's a 650MB work-around which needs to be installed somewhere, ideally in a location that won't conflict with 4.4 and may have unintended consequences when accessing user profiles, especially if both are open or active at the same time. Second, the more fiddly one, which takes a lot of trial and error to get right: it is possible to convert to PDF via Pandoc and LaTeX in a form closer to what was intended. Requirements: Pandoc (available from pandoc.org), latexdiff (available from macports.org or tug.org), latexmk (available from macports.org or tug.org), texlive-latex (available from macports.org or tug.org), texlive-latex-extra (available from macports.org or tug.org), texlive-latex-recommended (available from macports.org or tug.org). Alternatively the much smaller BasicTeX package (available from tug.org) can be substituted for a full installation, but it may require additional work to support all available fonts. Method: save ODF as Microsoft .docx, edit as necessary (at minimum remove footers and page numbering) and then in the Terminal run (in the directory where the file is): pandoc -f docx -t latex -o file.pdf file.docx Note: that images are not included, points and bullets lose their content and tables take a bit of fiddling to word wrap correctly (may require faking it with multiple table rows and hiding the borders). The output will always look like a LaTeX document, noticably different from LibreOffice and other PDFs. Page numbering is automatic by default with numbers in the centre at the bottom of the page. Also note that the best results with pandoc were achieved with Microsoft's docx format, both Docbook and HTML conversions resulted in extremely annoying editing challenges before producing the PDF (though a preliminary run using HTML could produce a LaTeX file with the relevant code to insert images to be pasted into another LaTeX conversion from a .docx file). Advantages: Does not require two versions of LibreOffice, avoids user profile conflicts, saves space from second copy of LibreOffice (if BasicTex used or if LaTeX was installed anyway). Disadvantages: LaTeX tools and libraries take more space than a second copy of LibreOffice (unless BasicTex is used), requires additional editing specific to producing the PDF, loses pictures (can be restored by exporting to LaTeX .tex first and editing the LaTeX code manually or with a LaTeX editor). Recommendation: If you don't use LaTeX for anything else already and/or have no familiarity with it, do not use this workaround. If you have used LaTeX and are cautious with available disk space, try the BasicTex variant of this work-around. If you are more familiar with LaTeX then you might consider this work-around. So, which do I use? Both, with a full LaTeX installation, it depends on the target audience of whatever the document is. If I don't use LaTeX I have to shutdown LibreOffice 4.4 before launching 4.3. I've also seen it with olderIt only happens when using OpenVPN and the VPN is connected, and there are files in the recently used list that are on the shared drive on the remote Samba server; when the VPN is disconnected the File menu works as expected. I last saw this issue in October 2014 with LibreOffice 4.2.5.2-hotfix1. That would allow precise, real-time placement, without the need to guess, retry. I think a relative offset to the present position would not be flexible enough. For example, if you shift the present label 2 inches left then you have to re-adjust this value each time the line is replaced. That's why I suggested that there should be several anchor points on the connector and I would like to tell that the connector label should be anchored to this anchor point of the connector line or that one (plus a certain amount of X and Y offset).
