https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100038 Aron Budea changed: What|Removed |Added CC||ba...@caesar.elte.hu --- Comment #2 from Aron Budea --- Created attachment 125271 --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=125271&action=edit Screenshot displaying issues 4-5 in comment 2 I think Frederick's issue wasn't that he personally couldn't get around the URL-ification, but that if someone wants to do that, they'll be at a loss how to do it, as he was initially. URL being uneditable is a known bug, and is reported in bug 75889. 1. "What's This?" not offering any help is a bug in my opinion. 2. Other ways of getting relevant help: while "at" is a very generic term, "link" or "hyperlink" should return something relevant in the help (hovering over the "URL" displays a tooltip that it's treated as a link). Some weird behaviors: 3. If the text is typed with a space after the comma after the link (so: "40V, 200mA, h=100@1V, 10mA"), weirdly, right-clicking the text in the Input line above the sheet permanently removes the URL (sometimes this can be reproduced if there's no space there, but it's not that consistent). 4. Sometimes the link is displayed as a link in the Input line (if it's typed in there, for example), but if you move between cells and come back, it will show as normal text (still in Input line). Particularly if you move with cursors, it'll stay as a link, if you select the cell with mouse, it'll be normal text. 5. When it's not displayed as a link in the Input line, and part of the text/link is selected, the selection shown in the cell won't be the same. 6. Using autocomplete to finish the entry based on a previous one does not create links. All observed in LO 5.1.3.2 / Windows 7. These are a lot of items for a single bug report, but I didn't want to open several reports, yet, plus I think 1-2 and 3-6 are closely related. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 99999] Thesaurus in LO does not handle antonyms
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9 V Stuart Foote changed: What|Removed |Added Status|UNCONFIRMED |NEW CC||vstuart.fo...@utsa.edu Ever confirmed|0 |1 Severity|normal |enhancement --- Comment #2 from V Stuart Foote --- Believe this is a simple mistagging issue with the original WordNet 2.1 definitions file, th_en_US_new.dat from 2005, used for the HunSpell projects thesaurus MyThes--so not really a bug, just incorrectly formatted data. We then tweak that listing a bit and end up with: https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/dictionaries/tree/en/th_en_US_v2.dat In a LibreOffice Writer session , if you look at "normal" rather than "normally", where the entries are correctly tagged, you'll see what is supposed to be shown. Antonyms are not displayed on the context menu. And shifting into the Thesaurus with +F7 you'll see the full record including the type annotation. As to adding a separate LibreOffice context menu for antonyms--I don't think that would be of much value as there are just too few formally defined to make it worth while. I believe coverage in WordNet 3/3.1 is better, but looks like the data format changed quite a bit so the processing scripts (Daniel N.'s wn2ooo) used for MyThes would have to be refactored. Also, don't know if the licensing allows needed MPL redistribution for use with HunSpell or Language Tools project(s). =-ref-= http://hunspell.github.io/ https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/dictionaries/tree/en http://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/core/external/mythes/ -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

I'm just trying to enter some data in Calc. I was able to Google some useful keyboard shortcuts and things are pretty cool. I figured out how to move rows around and stuff. However, when I enter "@" in a field, like "40V, 200mA, h=100@1V,10mA" then Calc goes nutty. It won't let me edit the word containing the "@", I see a gray rectangle containing the text "h=100@1V,10mA". I click on it and it selects the whole thing, I use the arrows and it skips over the rectangle. Sometimes after clicking around on other cells or something, then I can get Calc to let me edit the text in question, but then it seems kind of buggy - it forgets my edits, or when I edit the text after the rectangle, it comes out garbled. Maybe I've entered something atypical but it's weird that I would start using a piece of software and get stuck so quickly. No help from Google "libreoffice calc at sign". No help from F1 (searched for @ and "at"). No help from "Help > What's this?" and clicking on gray rectangle. I just want your software to stop trying to be so smart! I finally got help from user "Marqeaux" on IRC, but ... Can you think of some ways to remove this stumbling block for future new users? The attached spreadsheet has been edited down to have only two pages of content. I did select-all,Format->Row->Show to un-hide any hidden rows, and similarly for columns. Only the expected two pages of content are visible, and when printed that's only what is printed. Fine so far. But exporting to PDF appends hundreds of rows of phantom content. It is content which I thought I had deleted or replaced with new cell values. Again, the phantom content is completely invisible when editing or printing. It only appears when exporting to PDF. STEPS TO REPRODUCE: 1. Load the attached phantomrows.ods 2. Print-preview; verity that only two pages appear 3. File->Export to PDF 4. Open the resulting PDF RESULTS: Lots of mysterious junk after the expected rows EXPECTED RESULTS: Export to PDF should produce the same as Print; Also, deleted content should actually be deleted, and if any rows are hidden they should be un-hidden by selecting the range and doing Format->Row->Show. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

In your opinion. It is the solution which is used in GTK - you may not personally like it, but as I have now stated repeatedly, it is how GTK works; it is how every other application written on a native version of GTK works. If LO natively supported GTK, we wouldn't even be having this discussion - this would be how LO worked, and that would be it - auto-accelerator behaviour would follow theme, full stop. Your argument is for a half-finished implementation of GTK emulation which happens to fit your personal needs. It is not the right way to implement GTK emulation for anyone who is used to using a GTK environment and using other GTK applications within it, which is why it was reported as a bug in LO over 4 years ago - see https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54169 for details. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 99326] Ability to disable GTK+ auto-accelerator
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=99326 --- Comment #18 from Simon Long --- (In reply to Yousuf (Jay) Philips from comment #17) > > Novice users do not change this setting; theme authors do. All a novice user > > does is to choose a theme. Theme authors do know where to find this setting, > > When we move from an interface where we didnt support auto-accelerator to > one where we do, users will first assume that its either a bug (like i did > in bug 97586, as well as others) or its a feature that has been implemented > in LO, rather than one that is being implemented based on a theme-level or > OS-level property. Yousuf, you are looking at this issue solely as a LO user. You are not looking at it as a user of a GTK environment. As I have asked above, what is the purpose of GTK compatibility in LO unless to make LO match look and feel of the other applications in a GTK environment in which it is being used? I cannot think of one. Your point seems to assume that someone is using LO as the only GTK application on their system - as otherwise surely they would notice that they have the auto-accelerator feature in all their other applications? And if someone did notice that they had auto-accelerators enabled in multiple applications and wanted to turn it off, by your argument, every GTK application would need to individually offer them that as an option - as I have said before, that is not how GTK applications work. > Users pick a theme based on what it looks like and not on > the value of the auto-accelerator property, so to say that users wouldnt > want to change this feature is inaccurate, as i'm unable to changing this > feature in a easy way and can imagine what a novice user will go through. You are trying to dissociate a GTK theme behaviour (auto-accelerators) from GTK theme appearance, but the two are intrinsically linked; that's what a theme is for. If a user picks a theme with auto-accelerators, they will get auto-accelerator behaviour in all GTK applications. > Some gtk+2 desktop environments (e.g. Xfce, Mate) provide users with the > ability to tweak their theme in a GUI interface, like being able to modify > the controls, icons, window borders, etc. They dont give the option to > change the accelerator property, so users who choose a theme which happens > to have it enabled dont have the ability to disable it there without jumping > through hoops. But what does it benefit a user to have a way to disable the feature in one single application? If they don't like it, they will surely want to disable it in all applications - providing a means to ignore theme in LO will only make them look for a similar mechanism in other applications, and they won't find one - because it shouldn't be set in applications. Your point about some environments not allowing this parameter to be changed in their user-friendly theme editors is not an argument for adding an override to LO; it is an argument for adding the ability to globally set the parameter to the theme editors. > The point I was attempting to get across is that we dont have to adhere to > every GTK+2 property if we believe it has a negative affect to our users > user experience. We havent been adhering to this property since LO's > establishment, so we dont have to adhere to it now just because. This was a bug in LO's GTK emulation which has been fixed - that's why we didn't adhere to it since LO's establishment; LO was doing the wrong thing before this fix. LO is now doing the right thing. The argument that we have been doing the wrong thing for so long that we should never fix it is not a valid one. We should absolutely attempt to adhere to every GTK property if we are offering GTK compatibility - as otherwise, what's the point in offering it? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

For the first file that's 79*119 nodes. (It's Over 9000!!!) The second file has 757.350 circles/pixels. I doubt there is any editor out there who can handle this. Not really a short-term dodge when it has been LO's behaviour since its establishment. The point is to be conservative with this change (limit it to be enabled only in gtk3) until it is fully matured. > > Thanks for the information, though i dont know where to go to change this > > setting and their isnt a GUI for changing this setting that the novice user > > would know how to find. It is true that this is a setting in Gtk+2, but that > > doesnt mean that we must follow it, as there are other gtk+2 apps that dont > > - e.g. Firefox. > > Novice users do not change this setting; theme authors do. All a novice user > does is to choose a theme. Theme authors do know where to find this setting, When we move from an interface where we didnt support auto-accelerator to one where we do, users will first assume that its either a bug (like i did in bug 97586, as well as others) or its a feature that has been implemented in LO, rather than one that is being implemented based on a theme-level or OS-level property. Users pick a theme based on what it looks like and not on the value of the auto-accelerator property, so to say that users wouldnt want to change this feature is inaccurate, as i'm unable to changing this feature in a easy way and can imagine what a novice user will go through. Some gtk+2 desktop environments (e.g. Xfce, Mate) provide users with the ability to tweak their theme in a GUI interface, like being able to modify the controls, icons, window borders, etc. They dont give the option to change the accelerator property, so users who choose a theme which happens to have it enabled dont have the ability to disable it there without jumping through hoops. > and all applications which use GTK+2 properly obey it - the argument that > because some other applications are doing things incorrectly that it is > therefore ok for LO to also do things incorrectly is not really sound > reasoning. The point I was attempting to get across is that we dont have to adhere to every GTK+2 property if we believe it has a negative affect to our users user experience. We havent been adhering to this property since LO's establishment, so we dont have to adhere to it now just because. > Implementing code to read this value from the theme and thereupon to enable > or disable auto-hiding is a trivial change; it's probably easier than > working out how to conditionally build without any of the auto-hide code... Yes it is fine that we have the code that does this reading of the value, i am saying that we should include an IF statement after the reading of this value that if the user has left the option to show or hide auto-accelerator in the options dialog to 'Automatic' (likely stored in registrymodifications.xcu as a NULL value) and LO was built against gtk2 (built with the argument --disable-gtk3) that auto-accelerator should be disable by default unless a user/packager enables it. Below is an outline of how it would be written in php: auto_accelerator = value read from theme or OS; auto_accelerator_options_level = value read from registrymodifications.xcu; if ( auto_accelerator_options_level != NULL ) { auto_accelerator = auto_accelerator_options_level; } else { if ( gtk2_build ) { auto_accelerator = 0; } } > If I get time in the next few weeks I will look at adding the ability to > read this value from the theme and to use it to enable or disable auto-hide. I assume as this gtk2 theming attribute hasnt been implemented yet that i'm being affected by a gtk3 theme on my gtk2 desktop environment. > Incidentally - you mention above the ability to compile LO against gtk2 - is > that even possible? The daily builds that TDF compiles are against gtk2 and i believe the ones available on the libreoffice.org download page are also against gtk2. (In reply to Samuel Mehrbrodt (CIB) from comment #11) > Although I wonder what exactly the "major UX issue" is, that you are > speaking of, Jay.
