I don't see it is a bug.
RTL text layout depends on control characters and meta attributes to establish
the fragments hierarchy and individual direction for each span.
PDF images contain only the pictures of the letters, and there is no simple,
automatic way to put them into the correct reading order.

Maybe there should be a new RTL-specific editing operation implemented, "Visual
<-> Logical conversion", which would allow fixing this manually.

Description:
When I attempt to open a PDF file from the Writer Browser (open file) the
program crashes.  I open the PDF via the mouse - right click - not trying to
open directly into Writer / open doc.  Crash recovery OK.  Does not happen in
other programs i.e. if in Acrobat and trying to open a Writer file in Writer or
MS Office.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Working in a Writer file, but want to check another file, so open file
browser
2.Select PDF file
3.Right click mouse to select Open in Acrobat  Pro
4. File opens as PDF
5. Writer crashes

Actual Results:  
As above

Expected Results:
Crashes every time


Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Opened the PDF file in Acrobat but leave Writer working

Additional Info:
This never happened before - have been using Writer very happily for many
years. PDF is the only other file type I use - so can't check whether this is
occurring with other software.

That is by design. If a combining mark is at the start of the text, it is
displayed over a dotted circle since a combining mark needs something to
combine with. You can put a space or no breaking space before the mark if the
dotted circle is undesired.

Description:
Trying to insert a PNG image into a Writer document results in this error i
Writer 5.4.1.2 (fresh install) under fully patched Windows 7 64 bit. Am unable
to insert the image using any method to insert it (drag-and-drop into the
document, Insert Image commands...)

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a document in Write
2. Use Insert Image button on toolbar to locate a PNG image and select it


Actual Results:  
1. Writer pops up dialog box saying 'Image filter not found' and nothing is
inserted into the document.

Expected Results:
The image should have been inserted into the document.


Reproducible: Always

I made an inquiry there about each sub heading the cursor is positioned at in
the document selecting that sub heading in the Navigator but not unselecting 
previously selected sub headings. Please advise if a new bug report should be
opened on this.

It asks for a phone number to send you an SMS with a verification code.

The source indicates the cursor position is only tracked for Headings when in
Headings single category view. No bug was found causing Headings not to be
tracked by Navigator when in all categories view.

Some fonts have it, while other fonts dont, and i do see a benefit of showing
it like so in the special character dialog, but dont see a usefulness in a
document. I doesnt appear when i type in my browser.

select the Mapiq, which will result in the character appearing correctly when
changing the font, but if you select the Heh by mouse, it will not select the
Mapiq, resulting in no change of the Mapiq when changing the font.

This didnt happen with the arabic diacritics i tried, and dont know all the
hebrew ones that are available to test, so i'll leave it to Eyal and Lior to
see if it is an isolated hebrew diacritic or does it happen to all.

Even using a distro package (e.g. libreoffice-kde) doesn't help in a KDE
environment, since under X11, KDE's window manager KWin always honors
_NET_WM_ICON instead of using the themed icons from the .desktop file. And in
vcl/unx/generic/window/salframe.cxx, LibreOffice sets _NET_WM_ICON to be a
really ugly, low-resolution icon.

It's particularly bad in Plasma, as the internal Breeze theme icon is just

I went to the second link - it asked for a phone number. I went to the first
link, downloaded a binary - and that asked for a phone number. I like you guys,
but I don't want to mix up my phone and my LibreOffice Q work :-(

Also, isn't Telegram used for very-short-term chatting? Sorry for the nagging,
but I've never seen a Bugzilla page refer to a smartphone chat group before.

Would have been useful to know where attachment 89808 originated, as it wasnt
created by MS Word as 2007 and 2010 both state that it required repairing and
when saving it from 2007 or 2010, LO could open those files correctly.

So the document has XML like this for the line which is supposed to be right

There is an improvement with 5.4.2 here (macOS 10.13, 2016 13" no-touch bar
MBP) and no aggravating spinner action, but it still feels like a delay (but
not as long).

Importantly, there's no spinner after clicking on a "Create" item from the
Startcentre so that does improve the feel too.

However, I'm going to keep 5.3.3.2 installed as well for now because of the
down scrolling bug (Bug 109062) that affects all versions after that - I might
have to weigh up slow/spinner dialog opening vs sluggish scroll-down behaviour.

A PDF showing the bad result

The attachment shows the slide in two views: a normal (1st page) and notes (2nd
page). If you use 100% zoom, it's evident that the image hasn't been scaled to
correspond to reduced size of slide on notes page, and possibly the position
also wasn't adjusted.

The dotted circle is displayed, if the diacritic is not combined with a letter,
for example if it is the only letter in a line or if you have used the wrong
order. To combine, you need to first enter the basis letter and then the
diacritic.

A slide with an image exported to wrong position on notes view in PDF

The attached presentation contains a single slide with an image which is put to
wrong position when exported to PDF with notes exported.

Steps:
1. Open the attachment in Impress
2. File->Export as PDF...
3. Check "Export notes pages" (you may also check "Export only notes pages" to
skip the normal slide page) and do "Export"
4. Open resulting PDF and check image position on the notes page

Expected: the image must be at the same position and of the same size (relative
to slide shown borders)

Actual: the image is shifted to the right  and bottom, and is larger than
originally

So inserting the Mapiq from the special character dialog does insert it in the
wrong location and selecting the Heh and the Mapiq results in the font name
toolbar field to go blank, which normally means that multiple fonts are in the
selection, so this is quite strange.

But what i noticed when testing this bug and which can be seen in the
screencast is that when you select the Heh by keyboard, it will also select the
Mapiq, which will result in the character appearing correctly when changing the
font, but if you select the Heh by mouse, it will not select the Mapiq,
resulting in no change of the Mapiq when changing the font. This should be
filed as a separate bug.

It worked fine with me with these steps

1. open attachment 136983
2. select after the Heh with the Mapiq
3. press delete
4. select the Heh with the Mapiq
5. set the font to David CLM

I opened the odt in word and it showed a square character next to the Mapiq, so
i'm assuming two Mapiqs were pressed next to the Heh, which is why one appeared
in the middle and one at the end in your steps.

Some observations:

1) The toolbar gets lots of "mouse leaves the window" and "mouse enters the
window" events while moving the pointer over it. It probably shouldn't happen,
and indeed doesn't happen in a non-RTL UI.

2) The related code in the gtk3 backend got a RTL fix in Bug 106163. Applying
the same fix to the gtk2 backend eliminates the "mouse thinks its in the
opposite location" part of the bug, but the toolbar still heavily flickers
(after all it still gets excessive enter/leave events, as above). (BTW it isn't
clear why Bug 106163 was flagged as gtk3 related, as I can reproduce the same
with gtk2, so the fix is needed there too.)

3) Disabling toolbar tooltips completely, doesn't show the bug anymore, with or
without 2). There are no more excessive enter/leave events.

4) Disabling the mouse enter/leave handling completely in the gtk2 backend,
doesn't show the bug as well, but shows that the tooltips are clearly
misplaced.

So I think the trouble begins when the pointer reaches the tooltip (which
normally shouldn't happen), and that what makes the main window get the "mouse
leave the window" event.

don't reproduce the crash but I got a hang when trying to open the file.

So from 3.3 to 5.0, the tooltips were slightly broken where if a tooltip
appears and the mouse touches it and it has to appear further below it, it will
initially think its on the opposite side of the screen and hit another button
and show its tooltip for a split second before correcting itself.

In the screencast, you can see that i move my mouse over the export pdf button
on the right and its tooltip appears and then the find next down arrow button
on the left will get hit and its tooltip appears for a split second at ~00:24.

So the regression happened during the 5.1 cycle which completely broke it, but
it has been slightly broken since 3.3.

When I perform a search or search and replace in Writer, I can put the windows
Search 

When I do a search in writer I can keep open the search window, edit the text,
then do a new search and change the text again without close the search
windows.

In the database, if I do a search on a form or on a table, I must close the
search window to make changes to the text.

It would be much better to use the same system as the writer

Drop SimpleWinLayout
Use Uniscribe also for non-complex text. It is complicated enough to
have separate Graphite and Uniscribe layout engines. Will make further
changes to the code easier to manage, especially as with the
UniscribeLayout code we have access to the actual
glyphs. (Cf. 3e47219e06b9a279ba22a9bbef668731f2d3e07d)

Description:
Applying/undo formatting for a large document is a bit slower as it has been
before



Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Writer
2. Disable automatic spell checking
3. Open attachment 136963
4. Press CTRL+A and wait until loading is complete (CPU usage drops to +/-0)
5. Press CTRL+B and monitor the time until the CPU usage drops from max to 0
(for me 5 sec with LibO6 and 3 sec with a good build: for example commit
f8f8bdf24f7fc2f76810d36c4e1ce0e808c9509e)
6. Undo the change (CTRL+Z) With LibO6 6 seconds at max. With the good build 4)

Actual Results:  
Bold takes 5 sec with LibO6 
Undo takes 6 sec with LibO6

Expected Results:
Same as in f8f8bdf24f7fc2f76810d36c4e1ce0e808c9509e (or other previous
versions)
Bold in 3 sec
Undo in 4 sec


Reproducible: Always

OK, I have found something to reproduce the bug. Apparently it is not related
to the encrypted macros:

Tools/Macros/Manage macros/Libreoffice Basic.../Manage.../Libraries/New...
Type Library1 as name
Then click on Edit

and replace
"Sub Main

End Sub"

By

I fully expect this to be useless, as I cannot give an exact way to reproduce
the error but here it goes anyway: 

For several x64 versions, up to 5.4.1.2 (which I'm currently using), Writer and
Calc have destroyed my work on several occasion by suddenly saying "general
input/output error" to all tries to save the file currently open. When this
happens, I can only close the program (losing all changes made till my last
backup). The file I tried to save to is truncated to zero bytes, though I can't
say whether it was truncated by the save that caused the aforementioned error,
or the one before that. 

The error appears without rhyme or reason, but always on file save, and seems
to occur quicker and/or more often when I save more often (which I did to lose
less work in between saves, to no avail). 

The problem has occured on two different Win10 professional installations on
two different computers, with files of vastly different sizes, but always
created with one of those LO installations. I have tried several LO versions,
but the problem persists. 

If this happens, nothing can be saved (even after restarting LO or the whole
machine) until I delete the user profile for LO. After that, I can use the
suite again for a few minutes to a few days until the problem reappears. The
files however, are gone. All I can do is get the backups and redo the changes.

I'm usually saving the files in question to a newwork drive (SMB share or SFTP
drive using ExpandDrive or MountainDuck), but once the error occurs, the file
can't be saved to any drive, be it remote or local. 

This seems to be related to a number of bugs reports of both LO and OO going
back up to seven(!) years, e.g.

I didn't look into that closely, but imagine that trying to find out how print

Not sure that this belongs with this item or if it should be a separate item:

The font size on the Find / Replace dialog is difficult to read and to hit the
checkboxes with the mouse.  can you make it bigger for people with not-perfect
eye-sight, less than precise hand-movements?  Many older people fall into this
category which makes this an ADA and Age-related issue in the USA.
