Instead of the large usually empty space taken by the Findbar '[placeholder for
message]' area this area can be adjusted to the length of the displayed
message.

And, to add to this, whilst I do not want to draw negative comparisons to Excel
(given its massive financial and talent resources countered by its sometimes
predatory practices), in Excel if I type <13mar> it recognizes this as 13 March
2018 from as far back as I can remember.

As to standards: standards are not the law of the Medes and Persians which must
be adhered to at pain of death.

I think of a useful extension to Thunderbird where the the author insisted that
the standard says the signature must be at the bottom, after the text. Maybe.
But who in practice will scroll down a long exchange to go and look for this
when everyone else violates that principle? 

The pragmatic approach is to make the "right way" the default, and allow the
use to change this to make it easier for them to do (after 40 years of typing
on computer keyboards, I still only use two or three fingers, and I guess the
majority of users are like me.) Is that not what the point of the options is?

We look to these tools to make life easier for us as our workload increases,
and that it will take care of the standards (the most persistent one in this
case is that the date is stored as the integer portion and the time as the
decimal portion - that is the standard that counts. Not trying to force
everyone to type it in in a universal way.

Finally, even standards include the principle of tailoring - adjusting the
standard to suit culture. At least there always a reference back to the "root
standard".

I say this as humble participant in the writing of standards (ISO and others)
for many years.

I also comfirm this. 

Maybe the navigation should wrap to the next available bookmark and 'Navigation
wrapped' or something of the sort could be displayed in the findbar message
area. 

Bug 115600 may be a better place for futher discussion of this proposal for
navigation behavior change.

Open a database that has a view.  Select Table to show the name of the view in
the lower part of the window, along with the table.  Select the view.  Pull
down the Edit menu.  "Rename" is grayed out.  Or pull up a contextual
(control-click) menu on the view -- no rename option is presented.  If you
attempt to select the name of the view you do not get an editable field (like
under similar circumstances on a Mac.) There is at least one relatively simple
workaround: open the view for editing, save-as under the desired new name, and
delete the view.  But one shouldn't have to do that!  Attached is a screen shot
of a database window -- the view named XmasList is a view to be renamed, but
can't be without using the workaround.  "Bug" present in all version of LO I've
tested, up to and including both 6.0.4 and 6.1alpha builds from today.

Locking the frame of the presentation the canvas to a fixed scale is not an
option. It is expected to respond as toolbars are opened and closed.

However, any of the context sensitive toolbars can be undocked from the GUI. It
will float at the position you place it when it is active.

That use customization--opening toolbars and undocing/placing them as
desired--is fundamental to the GUI.

Description:
(Sorry dont know the english term for minimap used in impress. In German its
"Folienbereich". I am talking about the small Thumbnails pictures of the
slides)

Impress draws small images of the slides (both during editing and during
presentation) which sometimes does not render all elements. 
A high chance (but i found no 100% reproducible path) for this error to appear
is when a cursor is placed inside a text field.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. create text field 1 => its shown in minimap
2. create text field 2 => its shown in minimap
3. put cursor inside text field 1 again

Actual Results:  
sometimes: minimap does not show text field 1 anymore

Expected Results:
Minimap always shows an exact representation of the slide


Reproducible: Sometimes


User Profile Reset: Yes



Additional Info:
Also in presentation mode sometimes whole images are missing in the
minimap/preview.
Happens both in 5.4.5.1 and 6.0.1.1
I also have a presentation which reproducible does not show an image in the
minimap. Unfortunatly it contains confidential and the error disapear when i
modify the slides to remove the secrets.

Up to this point the file worked completly fine. After the updates to 5.4.5.1
as well as 5.4.6.2 that I performed today part of this file does have the
error. 
But maybe it's the file itself that is corrupt in some way. Honestly I don't
think so due to the fact that after opening it and saving it again to .xls or
.ods it works as it is supposed to. Just out of curiosity I opened it with
Microsoft Office which works as well.

Of course, I understand your point, and please forgive my insistence. I just
would like to add that these fonts (and there are many of them) do not seem to
render isolated heh as هـ in any other software, just as they didn't in
previous versions of LibreOffice; neither seems this هـ rendering to be proper
in Arabic typography. I mean, this is not a behaviour you may like or not: it
is something an Arabic font is not expected to do, as you probably know better
than me, and actually does not in other word processors, all of which makes it
hard to believe it is a feature intended by professional designers which no one
but current LibreOffice versions respects.

If a toolbar which is normaly invisble pops up then the document view is moved
aside. 

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Fresh Libre Office installation
2. Create new Impress presentation
3. create a Table within the presentation
=> it already happend but you probably did not notice it: in the bottom the 
"table toolbar" appears. As a consequence the main window shrinked and the
whole presentation moved up.

Now the more annoying usecase:
4. deselect the table (=> "table toolbar" hides)
5. click inside the table to select it
=> "table toolbar" shows up again in the bottom which moves the table up.
If you even clicked at the bottom of the table the table will even not be under
the mouse cursor anymore when you release it because it moved away.

Actual Results:  
Main Window drawing depends on visible toolbars.

Expected Results:
main Window drawing should be independant of toolbar appearance (like in MS
Word when a ribbon is blended in/out).

Additional Info:
The only known workaround i found googling is to create an empty dummy toolbar
which is always visible in the bottom left. However the place of the empty
toolbar is now wasted part of the screen.

Collection of frames around paragraphs

A border gets a 3D appearance, if a line with two colors is used e.g in this
way: The top and left border lines have the light color on the outer side and
the dark color at the inner side. The bottom and the right border lines have it
the other way round, the light color is at the inner side and the dark color is
at the outer side. To get a "flat" border the color at the inner side of the
frame has to be the same at all four sides.

Word generates a "flat" appearance by using a line, which has the colors the
other way round for the bottom and right edge. That is hidden from the user,
you have to read the file source to see it. OOXML has an attribute
w:frame="true" for the same effect. That works in Word too, but Word has no UI
for it.

The attached frame has a collection of frames around paragraphs. The attached
image is a screenshot of the appearance in Word. Compare the paragraphs "21"
and "22" in its "flat" and in its 3D versions with the screenshot. Notice that
the bottom and right lines are wrong.
The paragraphs "23" and "24" have the same problem, but the frame styles
"inset" and "outset" are broken in Word at least since Word 2003.
The other asymmetric borders "09", "10", "12", and "13" have the problem too,
but it is harder to be seen.

That is how the font is designed; an isolated heh takes a هـ form not ه form.
There is no better or worse here; there is rendering the font as intended by
its designer (current) and not doing that (previous). If you don’t like the
font behavior 1) contact the vendor and ask for the font to be changed 2)
change the font yourself (if you are legally allowed of course) 3) use a
different font.

Please understand that we can’t just “fix” this issue, what you see as a bug
others might see as a feature, and the litmus test is whether we are rendering
the font as intended or not.

Confirming, character font effects with negative spacing are showing the extra
lines adjacent to paragraph end. But when in line with following words/spaces
prior to paragraph end they do not.

It affects the rendeing to canvas of Overlining, Strikethrough, Underlining
font efects when spacing is reduced. The effect remains when exported to PDF 

It does not affect strings assembled with combining characters, e.g. U+0332,
U+0333, U+0335, U+0305, U+033f

HarfBuzz does not have font fallback APIs, and we do font fallback after
shaping (to a degree) and that is all HarfBuzz has to offer font-fallback wise.

Description:
When opening a .xlsx file the cells (Format: [H]:MM) that contain the formula
"=CELL1-CELL2" sometimes show "###" when the result is negative. When opening
the file and saving to .xls or .ods the newly created file does not come with
the same error. However saving the working file as .xlsx brings back the
problem.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open a certain .xlsx file. For privacy reasons only available upon request.
2.Have a look at the cells "Vormonat" and "Akt. Stand" from sheet "November17"
to "März18".
3.

Actual Results:  
Some cells (Format: [H]:MM) that contain the formula "=CELL1-CELL2" show "###"
when the result is negative.

Expected Results:
The cells (Format: [H]:MM) that contain the formula "=CELL1-CELL2" show "###"
should have shown the result even when the result is negative.

Showing the gap in the underline with spacing = 1.0

OK. Confirmed. For Windows Version: 6.0.2.1 (x64) with simple phrase 
and (apparently it's just a simple +/- "spacing" function now without the
option of default, expanded, condensed) spacing at -1.0 (not -0.1). The
resulting underline is still gapped. Attached is a simple image showing this at
higher zoom levels.

Yes, the link with predefined text would be a simple and elegant solution and
would do the job. The form would lower the entry barrier more (for those people
who have not configured mailto on their computers or who don't want to use

In Windows, I couldn't load this file with previous x86 LO, but I can with
5.3.8 and it's slow there. So I set OS to "All"
But master x86 and x64, after somewhat slow load, no repro, scroll fine, both
Win and Lin. Looks like a recent improvement. 

@Jose: please test with master 6.1 daily,

This bug is still present in Version: 6.0.2.1 (running on Ubuntu Linux 16.04). 
As a workaround, I installed the Arial font on my Linux system and used this
font for the form fields.

Some additional experiments using Liberation Serif font showed that even when
the font is present as an embedded subset it fails to display properly in form
fields, even though it properly displays in the rest of the document.

When investigating the the document internally, like raal did in comment#12, it
becomes apparent that the document itself is at fault, not Calc. This is a
document created by Google Docs (see comment#7), not by Calc.
Proper ODF documents contain a reference to the application which created/saved
the document, this document does not contain any such reference, so I can't see
which application/version exactly was used to save the document. 

The formulas in the documents are saved incorrectly, with the result that they
appear as formulas, but do not work as such.
It can be demonstrated by recalculating the formulas: select any cell with a
formula (=something) and press F9. Now you see the correct result of the
formula.
For cells D4, D7, D9, D10, D11 and D23 the result seems to be a realignment
from left to right, but in reality it is a change from text (incorrect) to
numeric value (correct). For cell D26, the change is twofold: a change from
text to numeric value and a recalculation with a different value as result
(depending on whether D4, D7, D9, D10, D11 or D23 have been recalculated).
I cannot explain why the formulas in D5 and D6 are saved correctly in the
document.

As my conclusion is that Google Docs created a faulty document, it a Google bug
and not a Calc bug. Setting the status as such.

Hi.I am happy shifting from Mo to LO and soon from windows to linux after i
have become awareness of how bad W and MO and how they are dealng and after

Arabic formation signs((arabic supplementary diacritics: tashkeel ) i.e(َ ّ ْ ُ
ٌ ً َ etc) can't be replaced or cleared when using (Find and replace ) tool on
LibreOffice 6.0

When I insert an SVG into Writer (see attached SVG as an example) it is not
correctly rendered (circle faces should be open). If the same SVG is opened in
Chrome, Libreoffice Draw, Inkscape, ... it renders correctly.

Reporduce
1. Create new Writer document
2. Insert the attached image (via the file menu, Insert > Image...)
3. Circles on the vertexes are rendered with closed faces (filled) when they
should be open.
4. Compare output in Chrome, Opera, Firefox, ...

Expected behaviour
1. Circles to be rendered correctly

Hmm, possible. Is this how it is supposed to be used?

I.e. is the way I write it an invalid syntax?
Because it usually works in all other cases. And when you select the "absolute
mode" from the menu it also shows you this syntax: abs{} (i.e. not this {abs
}.)

I beg to differ.
Whilst you are right that ISO standard is full year, that is not the point.

The point is that I define in the Options that Y-M-D is a valid input format.
and that is recognized as text, not as a date when I do type it 18-3-13, whilst
I can type 13/3/18 and it does convert it to date. as the example shows.

why wound 18-3-13 be ambiguous if 13/3/18 is not?

Further, I downloaded Xavier's file and got the same result as before. How
come? Please explain and then I will go away.

1. Local settings USA (Tools -> Options -> Language settings -> Languages
2. Open the attached file
3. Check spelling (F7) -> Spell checking complete.
4. Press OK 
5. Try to select a different language (Italian/dutch) from the drop down box
(can't be done). 

6. Reload the document -> file reload
7. Type after book 'argh'
8. Press Check spelling or F7
9. Select a different language -> working

Please note that this is still present in version 6.0.1. (the #51811 version,
where a tab is added). 

Also, the "Footnote" style seems to really want a tab stop at 1 cm. Deleting
the stop in the style configuration dialog box, saving and reopening the
document results in the tab stop being present again (along with the tab after
the footnote number, of course).

When writing this:

abs{ z } ^ 2

It is shown as:
| z² |

However, that is of course not what I wrote. It should be shown as:
|z|²

(also happens with other numbers/variables, not only 2. Just sued for
demonstration purposes here.)

A workaround is to write:
{abs{ z }} ^ 2

But IMHO this is not intended. If I want to have the power inside of the
absolute number, I'd write it like that:
abs{ z ^ 2 }

And if you say it makes no difference mathematically, you are wrong. For real
numbers, maybe, but not for complex ones e.g., where the "absolute number" has
a different definition.

Trying to send personalized pdf files with embedded image to a number of e-mail
adresses using mailmerger, I get the message that all mails have been processed
successfully, while less than half of the intended recipients did get their pdf
file by e-mail.
To do some problem determination, I have created a test spreadsheet file with 3
different people, one of them being repeated 37 times. The 2 singles have got
their PDF file, and only 5 of the 37 have been received...
If I send to only 3 different people, only one is getting its pdf file !
Any clue ?

Backtrace

Prerequisite:
With a debug build of libreoffice-6-0 branch (I was at
90fb652ebbc4b16ae5001140076f52209e913345), have Hungarian spell checker
installed (ie. hunspell-hu in Ubuntu), or copy the content of 'hu_HU' from
dictionaries repo into 'instdir/share/extensions/dict-hu'.
I assume debug libstdc++ packages are also needed.

Repro:
Open a Hungarian document eg. 'sw/qa/extras/uiwriter/data/commented-word.odt',
or set document language to Hungarian, and start typing.

=> Crash.
(the menioned document is for a unit test, so if Hungarian spell checker is
installed, the respective unit test will fail)

The crash is in Hunspell (or rather in C++ STD library), this is the relevant
part of the backtrace (attaching the whole thing):

There is no crash in a debug master build, so I have to close this as
WORKSFORME right away.

The problem is that some fonts only have version text encoded as UTF-16, while
we only looked for 8-bit-encoded version string. This makes the fonts to be
marked with wrong (default 1.0.0.0) version inside MSI package, thus failing to
reinstall them on update.
