Some more observations:

There are three options to invoke the command (at least in the windows
version):
soffice.exe
soffice.com (prints the best output)
swriter.exe

The popup (which is not wanted at all, as the aim is a batch conversion), only
appears, if in the background there is a LibreOffice instance already running.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 128595] Document difference for words and characters and spaces when copying and pasting text

2019-11-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Created attachment 155723

Copying text enclosed in dots/periods

I have attached a set of test cases. On each line I have taken some characters
from the original text and copied them, as indicated.

The reason that I copy single characters or single words instead of retyping
them is that I want to keep the same font and font effects. If I retyped the
text, I would then have to select it, change it to bold, and then find the
desired font by scrolling the drop-down list. If I do that carelessly, I would
then need to unbold the following text and change it back to Times Roman.

Or, the character might be something special that I can't just type. I would
have to find it in the Special Characters lists.

The remaining parts (UI, save setting in document, documentation) are yet to be
accomplished. I am no longer able to do this, so I switched status from ASIGNED

a picture partially duplicated onto another page.

No, it doesn't work that way. While Unicode is an important standard, it's only
of secondary importance to an office suite. Its primary goal is *not* creating
a reference comformant implementation of the standard; rather, it should use
the standard to the extent it needs to serve its users most. And if legacy
requires that some statements of standard be violated to keep existing
documents intact, that should be that way, until a better design is invented
and implemented, which would make possible to please both sides.

When I paste a bitmap image from an external software like gimp then I can crop
it in Writer. I like it.

However, if I paste a vector-based drawing from Draw then I cannot crop it. It
would be nice to have such a feature because the only thing I can do now is to
paste a pixelized version of the drawing which looks ugly and/or uses a lot of
resources.

My take is that this is a run segmentation issue. This is Tamil text, but the
offending character is from the Grantha block. The character is supposed to
work with Tamil text and is listed in the ScriptExtensions.txt of the UCD. My
assumption is that this information hasn't got into libo. Sorry, no time today
to dig into that. Firefox does support ScriptExtensions correctly in its
segmenting.

Dear Ole Tange,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Dear Gerry,

4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:
https://kiwiirc.com/nextclient/irc.freenode.net/#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!

Can you share your use case? This is, why are you copying single characters
instead of typing them? Put another way, why is it more difficult to type than
to select, copy and paste?

> BTW, the text that I copied did not have blanks on either side. It was
> embedded in a line of dots (periods).

Can you share a sample document and the step-by-step instructions to reproduce
it? What we have tested so far does not match your description.

With further testing, can get to FLUSH. Doing this with the connection, just
need to add another line in the macro after the SQL executeUpdate and before
the close() line:

Conn.getParent().flush

Now data is saved to Firebird embedded without it being opened.

If you go to Options the first tab called User Data is the default one that
will be open all the time.

In general User Data is useful to have correct content in the property dialog,
but in times where user data and privacy is an unique selling point for an open
source project, I suggest to have a better (new) landing page in the options
dialog.

maybe with some basic settings (which are available somewhere else too) from
where the user can jump into detail if needed.

Attached is a .odt file and the PDF file it produced. Notice that the
equations on the first page are not the same. There have been several
generations of this file. An earlier incarnation may have been a Word

I am using an HP Compaq 8100 Elite with Linux Mint 18.3 ‘Sylvia’ running

Well...O.K...I wanted to send the PDF file as well, but your system seems to
only accept one attachment. This should be considered a problem.

2019-11-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon

@Alex

Interestingly enough, with your comment went back and re-tested tdf#112458 and
that now works for HSQLDB embedded. However not for Firebird embedded and the
flush command is not valid - see attachment there.

For this report, FLUSH gives same error for both HSQLDB and Firebird embedded.
Also keep in mind this deals strictly with SQL and not a form although I tested
this using a form in Calc also.

Still appears both issues, at least with Firebird, involve the commit
situation.

Tried git checkout HEAD~100 a couple of times with 5.1 repo starting from

working.

Because of tdf#128607 I came back to test this once again Linux Ubuntu 18.04
Mate.

With TDF v6.3.3.2 and using HSQLDB (attachment versions) the problem is no
longer present and the 'flush' command was not needed.

Did go back to previous versions. This seems to have begun working in v6.2.5.2
but did not work in v6.2.4.2

If using Firebird embedded this still does not work in v6.3.3.2 which errors
out when using the flush command. Will attach image.

I wonder, if this is another manifestation of bug 65205.

There we have a quote from Dave:

"On Linux, if you are using LibreOffice and the Tabloid paper size does not
appear, it's because that size is not in the PPD file. In our case, HP did not
have that paper size in the file. I hacked in the paper size and metrics and
it's working."

Hello Hermann, a new major release of LibreOffice is available since this bug
was reported. Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of
LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ?I
have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED'
if the bug is still present in the latest version.

And just for clarificatin, if the bug is still present: It's only a problem
with the mouse, that means, you can mark a single character with keyboard,
right?

No, I'm not sure where the problem lies. But the print still doesn't respect

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 128719] New: FORMATTING: Clone Formatting should allow typing when in multiple selection mode

2019-11-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128719

Bug ID: 128719
Summary: FORMATTING: Clone Formatting should allow typing when
in multiple selection mode
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: Inherited From OOo
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: documentfoundat...@resotek.com

Description:
Clone Formatting should not exit multiple-selection mode when the user enters
text; it should remain in multiple-selection mode until the paintbrush is
clicked off, or until ESC is pressed. This way, a formatting style can follow
the cursor throughout the document, so the user does not have to paste the
formatting after typing in each new location.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Double-click on the paintbrush to enter clone formatting multiple-selection
2.Click in cell2 and type with same format
3.Click on cell3, type more text

Actual Results:
The format was not cloned onto cell3 because the multiple-selection mode was
deactivated as soon as the user began typing into the cell. Consequently, the
user must select clone formatting after each newly typed cell, or use multiple
selection mode then identify each of the new cells and select them. Both
work-arounds are tedious.

Expected Results:
Clone Formatting Multiple-selection mode should persist until clicking on the
paintbrush again, thus allowing formatted typing to follow the cursor until the
user exits Clone Formatting mode deliberately by clicking on the paintbrush
again.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Note that the Help does not mention that the clone formatting multiple
selection mode will be disabled as soon as the user starts typing.
From
https://help.libreoffice.org/Common/Copying_Attributes_With_the_Clone_Formatting_Tool

You can use the Clone Formatting tool to copy formatting from a text selection
or from an object and apply the formatting to another text selection or object.
Note.pngIn Calc, the Clone Formatting tool only applies to cell
formatting.

Select the text or object whose formatting you want to copy.

On the Standard Bar, click the Clone Formatting icon.
The cursor changes to a paint bucket.
If you want to apply the formatting to more than one selection,
double-click the Clone Formatting icon
Icon
. After you apply all the formatting, click the icon again.
Select or click the text or object that you want to apply the formatting
to.

Tip.png By default only the character formatting is copied ; to include
paragraph formatting, hold down Ctrl when you click. To copy only the paragraph
formatting, hold down Ctrl+Shift when you click.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 128717] New: Duplex option in print dialog (on Linux) not properly synchronized between both places

2019-11-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128717

Bug ID: 128717
Summary: Duplex option in print dialog (on Linux) not properly
synchronized between both places
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: UI
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: m.wegh...@posteo.de

Created attachment 155712
  --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=155712=edit
PPD file for sample printer that supports duplex

For a printer that supports duplex printing and that is set up with a PPD using
the standard "Duplex" PPD option, there are two places where the value for the
"Duplex" option can be set and those are not properly synchronized.

Steps to reprooduce:

0) Set up a (dummy) printer that supports duplex printing, e.g. using the
attached PPD file:
  sudo lpadmin -p tofile-ricoh -v ipp://printer1.example.org/ipp/print -P
tofile-ricoh.ppd -E

1) start Writer
2) open print dialog (Ctrl+P)
3) select the printer set up in step 0
4) observe that "Paper sides" is correctly set to "Print in both sides (long
edge)"
5) click on the "Properties" button
6) observe that "Duplex" is set to "Lange Kante" (OK, German translation for
"Long edge)"
7) change value for "Duplex" to "Aus" (i.e. "None")
8) click "OK" to close the "Properties" dialog
9) observe the value shown for duplex in the main print dialog

Result:

The value is still "Print in both sides (long edge).

Expected result:

The value should be the same as set in step 7, here "Print only in one side".

Additional notes:
* When printing to an actual printer, the value set in step 7 is used, not the
one shown in step 9.
* Synchronization works correctly the other way round, i.e. after changing it
in the main print dialog and then opening the "Properties", the previously set
value is shown there.
