[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 133131] Memory should be freed sooner after closing a document with tracked changes on (takes a minute or so)
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=133131 Mike Kaganski changed: What|Removed |Added Resolution|--- |NOTABUG Status|UNCONFIRMED |RESOLVED --- Comment #3 from Mike Kaganski --- (In reply to Telesto from comment #2) To clarify: trying to lower memory consumption is a great things itself. If we can change memory requirememns, e.g. using more efficient structures etc, that would be most welcome. However, the specific issue was not filed against *too much memory was required for a specific task*; it was about the *timing* how the memory was freed after initial allocation and closing the data. This aspect should not be generally considered a bug, unless there is a substantial evidence that it causes real problems. Of course, if memory is not freed at all, that should be considered a bug, though; again, I say about dynamics here, when it *is* released, but not at the moment when you expected, which means it is handled correctly, but using a strategy different from your expectations. I hope it makes my response clearer. Sorry if I wasn't specific enough. Closing NOTABUG for the time being; of course feel free to reopen in the event that you see a real problem caused by the behaviour you reported. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 125428] Huge ram amount used not freed
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=125428 --- Comment #25 from Mike Kaganski --- (In reply to Telesto from comment #24) Hi! Although this might need further analysis, I agree that not releasing memory *at all* after an operation (as 7-8 from c#14 might hint) must be treated as a bug. Yet, it needs investigating: is that really not released e.g. on timer? is sorting repeatedly on the same data (e.g. asc->desc->asc->...) produce higher levels after the spike each time? etc. But if it's released subsequently, without unloading documents or exiting program, then IMO it needs much more substantial ground to be called a bug. That would mean proper memory handling, and only if that results in actual problems, the strategy might need to be revised. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=133020 --- Comment #18 from David García --- @BogdanB, in your second video, you opened the original Visio file: it's rendered correctly, as it's rendered correctly on my computer. My issue only concerns the SVG file. I noticed that, when you previewed the SVG file, it wasn't rendered correctly, so maybe when Drawio converts Visio files into SVG files, it produces bad files. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 133020] Problems rendering SVG files
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=133020 --- Comment #14 from David García --- Hi, @BogdanB, Thank you for testing the issue. 1. In your screenshot, the SVG file is rendered correctly. 2. In your video, the SVG is not rendered correctly. If you compare the screenshot and the video, you'll notice the difference. When I send this comment, I'll upload my screenshot of the correct rendering, obtained by opening not the SVG file, but the original Visio file. 3. About my steps, I just click, in Draw, on File > Open, but if I click on Insert > Page, as you did, I still have the same issue. 4. I need to make a correction. I said above that, on my dad's computer, my SVG file was rendered correctly, but I was wrong. By mistake, I opened the Visio file, instead of the VSG file. Therefore, the issues are the same on both computers. 5. This makes me wonder: when you made the screenshot (not the video), are you sure you opened the SVG file and not the Visio file? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=133131 --- Comment #2 from Telesto --- (In reply to Mike Kaganski from comment #1) > I am very skeptic about this issue. I suspect a case when that's OS using > its own reasoning when to free its caches. OS memory management is not > something an application should tweak without a really good reason. So first > of all - which *problem* is experienced here? Some *numbers* changing in > some counters in some moments and not in other moments is not a problem by > itself. I'm not an expert on memory management.. Which part is done by the programmer, which part by compiler and the OS. So it's hard to look for something 'workable'. However, Calc is really loving to consume memory.. So it's not hard to use up 8 GB of ram (the limit for me, less actually). And if it loves to hold on to it for a while it can be come unworkable.. Why it uses so much memory is a mystery at itself.. The memory footprint of Excel doing the same thing is substantial lower .. Again.. not qualified for comparison.. But feel free to close.. the only thing I observe is that closing a document doesn't release the memory for quite some time for a - for me - unknown reason. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 133132] New: Split launcher shortcuts for macOS, like in Linux
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=133132 Bug ID: 133132 Summary: Split launcher shortcuts for macOS, like in Linux Product: LibreOffice Version: unspecified Hardware: All OS: Mac OS X (All) Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: enhancement Priority: medium Component: LibreOffice Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: jj+documentfoundation@visser.rocks Description: I've made separate macOS standalone launcher .app shims that launch Writer, Impress, Draw, Math, etc., just like LibreOffice works in Linux. They are nothing more than an Automator script that executes `/Applications/LibreOffice.app/Contents/MacOS/soffice --writer "$@" >/dev/null 2>&1 &` Because it supports args you can even drag files onto whichever of these .app bundles you have on the dock, and it'll open the file in the relevant LibreOffice program. As one of the most oft requested features for Mac is 'can I please have a way to separately install Writer or a way to launch the separate aspects of LibreOffice', this should do nicely. If wanted, now the fat binary could even be 'hidden' somewhere in the Application Support folder, and just the shims could be placed in /Applications. One thing: whilst the shims can be placed anywhere, LibreOffice has to be installed in its default location, since that is what the shell line inside the .app shim expects. Cheers and I hope this will be useful :) Steps to Reproduce: - Actual Results: - Expected Results: - Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: - -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

Any knowledge about the inner workings of anchoring of objects & lay-outing in LibreOffice itself? More interested in some insight; not a straight away bug fix ;-) It appears the the same anchor + same wrap is still able to produce different results depending on object (shape/frame/image/chart etc). Example bug 133075 [In simple World I expect the position of objects to be based on shared code as far as possible.
