[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 138942] In the Navigator, show separate nodes for Headings and Outline levels
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=138942 --- Comment #3 from NarayanAras --- I am not sure about how you interpret the chapters in the hierarchy. If I respond to you directly with your example, we may interpret it differently. To void that, let me describe the problem afresh: A novel usually does not have a deep hierarchy, such as Title > Parts > Sections > Chapters > Topics > paragraph headings (H1H5) > body text. But this structure would be normally seen in technical documentation. Normally, we do NOT apply heading levels to the top portion of the hierarchy. For example, the Parts, and sections are not assigned a Heading level. We start heading levels for chapters, topics and paragraph headings. Let us say we assigned the following: chapters ---> Heading 1 topics -> Heading 2 paragraph headings -> Heading 3 Sub-paragraph headings -> Heading 4 (The paragraphs may have multiple levels, so they will occupy Heading 5, Heading 6, etc.) As a result, the TOC (and also the "headings" node in the Navigator panel) will not show the Parts and Sections at all. To avoid this problem, LibreOffice Writer assigns an Outline level, which is then used in TOC and Navigator panel. This is fine, but the problem is that the node that actually shows the Outline levels is called "headings". This is misleading. The solution is simple: Let Navigatior panel show both nodes: Headings node and Outline node. The "Outline" node will show the document's hierarchy that is based on the Outline levels assigned. Thus it will show the intended hierarchy of the document: parts > Sections > Chapters > Topics > paragraph heading (H1H5...) On the other hand, the "Headings" node will show only H1, H2, H3 Thus it will not be able to show the Title, Parts and Sections. The "Outline" node reflects the WYSIWYM philosophy (What you see is what you MEAN). It shows the VIRTUAL structure of the document. The "Headings" node reflects the WYSIWYG philosophy (What you see is what you GET). It shows the ACTUAL structure of the document. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present. If you have time, please do the following: Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/ If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. Please DO NOT Update the version field Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker) Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not appropriate in this case) If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so: 1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/ 2. Test your bug 3. Leave a comment with your results. 4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo'; 4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://kiwiirc.com/nextclient/irc.freenode.net/#libreoffice-qa Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone! [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 138727] Help right-hand pane lacks scrolling
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=138727 Nick Levinson changed: What|Removed |Added Status|NEEDINFO|UNCONFIRMED Ever confirmed|1 |0 --- Comment #14 from Nick Levinson --- This is surprising, since my Fedora laptop's LO is version 7.0.4.2 (later than what you suggest I install (comment 13)) and my Ubuntu laptop's LO 6.4 (on Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS, kept evergreen) has a Help system that more resembles yours (comment 10) and has a URL that begins with file:///usr/share/libreoffice/ even when I had turned Wi-Fi off and restarted LO and Help. When I dug down in my Fedora filesystem usr/share/libreoffice/ was empty, so Fedora and Ubuntu store LO Help in different directories. Running a search across the whole file system for a Help phrase was taking hours and I gave up. I hesitate to install software that is not in Fedora's system for installing apps, since that might lead to a software conflict. I got LO as part of Fedora's default installation and I assume Fedora's Software app would generate the same thing. Nonetheless, just to see what would be listed, I ran dnf search libreoffice* (per comment 13) and got this inter alia: libreoffice-help-en.x86_64 : English help for LibreOffice I found the same string when running dnf search libreoffice-help* and getting its lengthy output. I don't know why, for either keyword, the output listed no other architecture for *help* and wonder if I'm getting a different Help format than you are because (perhaps) we're using different architectures, although I don't know why designers would want that to matter for Help's UI. Instead of installing what dnf listed, I uninstalled all of LO's major apps that I had: Writer, Calc, and Base. I assumed no part of LO should still be on my system after that. Then, using Fedora's Software app, I reinstalled just Writer and got the Help I had before and that you said is not part of LO. Also, the blank Writer document had defaults I had set before the uninstallation. Then, I uninstalled Writer and I installed, again via the Software app, the single LO suite, which was only version 6.4. It didn't have Help and told me to download it separately from LO's website or from a repository or use online help. Fedora's Software app doesn't seem to offer LO Help separately. The default Writer document did not have my settings. Then, I uninstalled the LO suite and reinstalled just Writer, which was version 7.0.4.2 again. This time, likely because LO versions 6.4 and 7 store in different folders, before I reinstalled Calc and Base I checked with just Writer and saw I had my defaults back and the Help I had before but which you said is not part of LO. So, I'm asking at Fedora's website to see if they're customizing LO Help (https://ask.fedoraproject.org/t/is-libreoffice-help-customized-for-fedora/11537). I didn't expect that they would go to the trouble, but maybe we'll find out. If you know the address of 7.0.4.2 Help on my system, let me know so I can drill down into the folders and find it. Then I might find the Help version. With the Help I have on my Fedora laptop: LO Writer > Help menu > About LibreOffice, both before and after the above uninstallation/reinstallation: Version: 7.0.4.2 Build ID: 00(Build:2) CPU threads: 2; OS: Linux 5.9; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US Calc: threaded The last reinstallation seems to have included Draw (not Impress) although I didn’t want it or select it. I made a Draw .odg document by inserting a QR code, saved it, and then tried to open it, but couldn't. I don't know if that's a feature or a symptom or if it's relevant to the Help issue. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

Google seems reluctant, it would like me to use their API with a more restricted scope. It is out of the question that I use the Google API, because I want to be multi-provider and therefore use the Python smtplib library. Maybe it will end with the help of the CNIL, if I do not succeed. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 138694] FORMATTING: Docx file looks good on screen and prints but fails to reload
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=138694 --- Comment #22 from Telesto --- (In reply to roland from comment #21) > By moving the other file types to an Export menu instead of Save-as, they > removed the implicit believe that "things just worked." They also increased > the likelihood the original file needed for debugging still existed. Product > got better. I'm on your side.. but well.. convincing the people who can actual make this decisions will be extremely hard.. And I'm rather an expert in rejected proposals :P A group will see it as respecting their hard work on docx/doc import/export. A group will scream it reflecting bad on LibreOffice (and competition matters). Not capable to handle DOCX.. [prefer to pretend A group disliking changes in principle.. A group find it convoluting workflow an file management (extra duplicates.. the or simply take the risk; and ignore the save to ODT warning] A group will say well this can happen, but group affected is limited A group will say LibreOffice isn't MSO so DOCX/DOC flaws being inherent. And people should simply know A group will tell you, we are doing it this way since ages - 10 years. So must be that good A group will point to all documentation which needs to be updated A group will point bad for marketing A group will say well, we enough work already.. no time for this.. A group will point to the 'one time' dialog with a warning [must be enough right] A group will complain about export being annoying.. A group will point to broken macro's or whatever.. point to Save As A group will manage to start a topic on all fill formats.. (say RTF or TXT). And because we probably can't get to agreement on one of those, throw out the whole idea Obvious invented a few of those above.. and not sure how big those groups are.. but well I brought this up somewhere in bug tracker or e-mail list, but got not much response.. I'm a kind of idea's how to make it more compelling. Certain objections surely hold some merit. And it's not that there are many complains in the bug tracker.. But how representative that is.. Based on my experience I wouldn't export directly into DOCX without ODT copy. Because I'm never sure what I would get.. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 89178] Mail merge does not change the merge fields in files (when saved as individual documents) to plain text
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89178 --- Comment #23 from Jan-Marek Glogowski --- (In reply to Ben Fleming from comment #22) > Foe me the gotcha is that I noticed the behavour because I have a BASIC > macro that produces invoices based on a spreadsheet and/or a base database. > When I perform this merge through the UI, the individual documents saved are > "flattened" as expected. But doing it through UNO (BASIC), I get the > version with the fields still intact. There is a "hidden secret" in the MM wizard code. One step of it allows you to edit the merged documents before "finalizing" them. But for this step the wizard actually generates a single document (AKA flattened) and MM just adds some bookmarks to mark the start / end of each single document. And just as the last step it splits the document into single ones, if a user prefers this. I think the MM triggered via "File -> Print" can omit that step, so would be faster with larger amounts of documents. Obviously the (BASIC) UNO API too. This is all very non-obvious from the users POV. AFAIK you can MM via "File -> Print", you can use "View -> Data Sources" and "Tools -> MM wizard". And all the generators in "File -> New -> Lables / Business cards" use MM in the end too, as the underlying mechanism. The generating code is always the MM UNO API with a descriptor to pass options into the code. I didn't look at the MM and its UI code for a very long time, so that might have changed, but from your observation it hasn't. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

In order you have an idea, here's a link: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/GetInvolved Here are the steps: 1) Retrieve source code with git 2) Build the code (it can take some hours depending on the power of your machine and the options you give to the build) Then: 3) Provide license statement 4) Create an account on gerrit And you're ready to hack! Here are some other hints to help: - to search the code: - https://opengrok.libreoffice.org/ or - "git grep" which will be faster than a simple "fgrep" Part (all?) of HSQLDB support in LO is in: connectivity/source/drivers/hsqldb Now the pb is, except Lionel that I put in cc and who has almost no time now for LO, I don't know who will be able to review your patches and so will be able to push them on git repo. The latter term nearly made me uninstall LO, but I was > hoping someone else would at least give finding the problem a try. I am sorry if you were feeling dissed--please it is not that at all, and thank you for taking the time to file a valid issue. But note this was *my* testing of the issue you raised, expending considerable time I did confirm it. It is trivial because it is *transient* and affects the VCL canvas on Windows builds. An assessment based on 10 years for doing QA review of issues on the LibreOffce and OOo. It has been set NEW--rather than confirmed and closed as WONT FIX, or being set NOT A BUG--and the lead dev working rendering issues notified. However, my exact wording was "This occurs in a very low percentage of scroll movements <5% , but it does occur with GDI default mode rendering, and with both Skia Vulkan and Skia raster mode rendering." You'll note not only did I test your submission, but also each of the other rendering paths, and not just mouse scroll but the equally valid drag to reposition the view frame with the 'thumb' on the scroll bar, while proving the cursor Up/Down and Scrollbar Up/Down movements are likely not equally effected. And losing view frame sync for a line of text at <5% of scroll movements was generous, it is probably closer to <1%. It is difficult to reproduce, and so nearly impossible to correct. I suspect it will be a y-height rounding issue affecting buffer of vertical blocks of text on the VCL document canvas. If there was a way to force it 100% by some combination of view port size, text size, and scroll distance--sure it could probably be solved. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 139547] New: Writer removes images from document during (auto)save operation
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=139547 Bug ID: 139547 Summary: Writer removes images from document during (auto)save operation Product: LibreOffice Version: 3.3.0 release Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64) OS: Windows (All) Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: Writer Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: problemno...@gmail.com Description: Images that were inserted into a Writer document were removed at some point. This is an *EXTREMELY* severe problem: if the 'save button' in a program does not (reliably) work, then why would you use that program? This is also not a new problem; as I found out that version 5 also suffered from this. Why this bug has not been solved is baffling to me... It is a *VERY* good reason *NOT* to use LibreOffice. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Take screen capture 2. Paste screen capture in document 3. Save document 4. Pick a random number N between 0 and 100. If N < 2 then some images are removed Else: go to 1. Actual Results: As someone who codes, I *fully* understand the question. The problem is that the moment when the images were removed is unknown. It happened at some point in the past, and I don't scan the document for missing images each and every time I press "save" (or at each event of "autosave"). Expected Results: Inserted images should *ALWAYS* be present. What is the point of a 'save' button that actually *removes* data during the operation? I don't recall a warning or error message like: "Hard disk full - cannot save document; free up some hard disk space and try again". Reproducible: Sometimes User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: The document that was affected was updated hundreds of times: often with small changes/additions of text and images. Total file size was less than 10 Mb. Google-ing this bug, I noticed that this bug was present in previous versions of both OpenOffice and LibreOffice (version 7.1 caused random crashes, I had to go back to version 6.2.2.2). This bug is so severe that I would recommend *NOT* using LibreOffice to create documents that include images!!! There may be a difference between: - inserting an image from clipboard (e.g.: a screen capture which is pasted into the document) and - "insert image" by using a file browser and pointing to an image file. Since I never used this option I cannot tell if this avoids the bug. But the coding path may be different. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 139546] New: Calc Sort Dialogue Options: Language Sort Options are not visible when you use your default language
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=139546 Bug ID: 139546 Summary: Calc Sort Dialogue Options: Language Sort Options are not visible when you use your default language Product: LibreOffice Version: 7.0.4.2 release Hardware: All OS: Windows (All) Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: Calc Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: dschei...@gmail.com Created attachment 168824 --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=168824&action=edit two screenshots of the Sort Dialogue. Different language settings In the sort dialogue you can change the language to set options for sorting. However, this dialogue is only active if you select a language for which there are also options to set. Therefore, I describe the problem using the German user interface, as an option should actually be available here. When you open the dialogue, the language is always set to "Standard - Deutsch(Deutschland)". Initially, it is not possible to select an option here. If you then select "Deutsch (Deutschland)" - without "Standard" -, you can now select the option "Alphanumerisch" or "Telefonbuch". Standard means default. The program should not care whether German is set as the default or not. It should always display the option. After closing and reopening the sort dialogue, the language is in any case again the one with "Default". A permanent change does not seem possible. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 139296] scrolling document canvas down & up can cause a line of text to "tear" with loss of registration, it clears when the line moves out of view far enough or view passes to
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=139296 --- Comment #13 from spokanemagn...@gmail.com --- Thank you Luboš. I invested several hours over the course of several days trying to gain as much useful information as I could to aid in the troubleshooting of this problem. I admit that disabling Skia rendering has greatly reduced the frequency/repeatability of the problem, but it still does it occasionally. I also thought my observation that under certain repeatable circumstances it always affects the 22nd line of text first before subsequent random lines throughout the document, but under other (also repeatable) circumstances it always affects either the first or the second and third lines of text before any others. That to me is a pretty interesting detail that I am quite positive others would not have noticed because I am an exceptional electronic technician and rank amateur programmer who has worked with a great many others, both professional technicians and ordinary consumers, to know that you rarely get useful or accurate information and that you have to verify everything for yourself. At any rate, I also found clicking on the Toggle Automatic Spell Checking and Toggle Formatting buttons as a band-aid fix. The only thing I cannot attest to with this issue is that it also does it with the touchpad and the keyboard arrows. For me, I have only ever experienced it via the mouse, which is why I checked to make sure I had the most current version of the driver and then reloaded it just in case. Again, thank you. I am obviously very much behind LibreOffice's efforts to build a better office productivity platform to compete against the nameless 800-pound gorilla in the market, as well as all the other options available out there. If it turns out that it is a bizarre driver issue, then I will admit I raised an alarm unnecessarily, but when I am told that it only affects 5% of users, then I know that the problem is genuine no matter what the eventual fix is and I was not wrong in bringing to everyone's attention. I felt I was being dissed by being told that it was a trivial problem and won't be addressed. I never asked that he drop everything to work on it or that it would be easy to find it, but there is a big difference between can't and won't. The latter term nearly made me uninstall LO, but I was hoping someone else would at least give finding the problem a try. I know that is why I got into the profession. Using my talents and technical competency to identify and fix problems is the challenge that drives me--not routine issues that are easy to spot and fix. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 89178] Mail merge does not change the merge fields in files (when saved as individual documents) to plain text
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89178 --- Comment #22 from Ben Fleming --- There have been several bugs logged on here regarding this issue, or what users perceive it as, e.g. 54703 and duplicates of that bug which have been closed. The issue is that for some reason, when saving to individual documents, the outputted documents do not get "flattened" they are just copies of the original, still connected to the data source, they just happen to have the relevant record selected. This is not the behaviour if the whole merge is to one document, in which case it is all "flattened" correctly. The users who are saying that hidden paragraphs are not working are probably seeing this behaviour, along with having "Show hidden paragraphs" ticked in their Writer settings. Foe me the gotcha is that I noticed the behavour because I have a BASIC macro that produces invoices based on a spreadsheet and/or a base database. When I perform this merge through the UI, the individual documents saved are "flattened" as expected. But doing it through UNO (BASIC), I get the version with the fields still intact. Jan-Marek Glogowski above mentioned speed and the belief that this incorrect behaviour actually sped things up in his use case. Given that the front-end seems to have been fixed at some point to behave correctly, could there not be a setting in the com.sun.star.text.MailMerge service with a boolean to perform the flattening if required? Personally I consider it a significant bug but I bet others consider it a feature. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
