Dear Andras Timar,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';

As long it is an export of a full page (or of even two pages) instead of the

2023-03-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=154495

Bug ID: 154495
Summary: Autodetecting Arabic locale as Hindi
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.5.1.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer

  Reporter: avidseek...@protonmail.com

Created attachment 186344
  --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=186344=edit
LO misdetects Arabic text as Hindi

LO doesn't enable CTL by default. However, if locale is set to Arabic, LO
detects that and enables CTL.

Problem is that LO enables the default which is Hindi, instead of properly
detecting that the text is Arabic.

The user's flow would be different:

Confirmation question: Always requires a click to answer (to overwrite data or
not to overwrite).

Notification + undo: If the user intends to overwrite data, just do nothing
after the paste; otherwise it's just one click to undo.

I think this is an excuse for not having a better UX.

Unless the data is really large (say, megabytes or more), the resource cost is
negligible. Computers are already fast enough, while the user would at least
take 0.5 seconds to read and answer the confirmation question.

I'm not sure that having an "undo" question is much less disruptive than having
the confirmation question. Both require an answer from the user, or
alternatively either of them could be disabled by user's options.

There are at least 2 differences though: the potential "undo" implies:

* a requirement for every single result to be correctly undone (and we know by
experience and bug reports that this does not always work as expected);

* in case we either revert the action or we don't confirm the pasting action,
the initial step:

** before the "undo" question, already used resources to actually paste
whatever we copied, and more would be used in case we revert; whereas,
** the current "confirmation" dialog asks before wasting those resources.

Bug ID: 154494

A presentation is a sequence of slides. Do these slides have a direction, in
the sense of LTR or RTL?

The answer seems to be that they do - in those contexts where they are laid out
horizontally. Perhaps the most important such context is the Slide Sorter;
another one is the printing of handouts. Then, the slides are similar to a
sequence of pages, for which a direction makes more sense.

We should be able to indicate that the presentation's slides progress from
right-to-left.

By default, in a new presentation, on the first slide and with no slide element
selected, the select Presentation Style (which isn't a presentation style, see
bug 154492) is "Background".

Regardless of whether that is an appropriate situation or not - if one modifies
this default style, a window opens with no content displayed except for 4
buttons: Help, Reset, Cancel, Ok. If one tries to enlarge the window - its main
area is empty.

  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: eyalr...@gmx.com

This bug is being "migrated" (more like copied) from the old OpenOffice
Bugzilla - one of the RTL-CTL bugs tracked there:

https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=55178

When the user is editing a cell in RTL direction, or in automatic direction in
an RTL sheet, end enters a formula - even one without any RTL character - the
rendering of the cell text (i.e. the = sign and the formula) is RTL rather than
LTR, within the cell, during the edit. After the edit - it's the formula result
that gets shown.

The cell edit bar on top is "fine"; or rather - it is LTR always, but that
would be a different issue (if at all).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 154490] New: Libreoffice spreadsheets keeps unfreezing rows and columns yet the menu says they are still frozen.

2023-03-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=154490

Bug ID: 154490
Summary: Libreoffice spreadsheets keeps unfreezing rows and
columns yet the menu says they are still frozen.
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 3.3.0 release
  Hardware: x86 (IA32)
OS: macOS (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: ghostcalle...@outlook.com

Description:
I work a lot with spreadsheets where I need to freeze the top row and a number
of columns at the start of the sheet. Freezing them works perfectly, I position
my cursor in the first cell outside the frozen area and select "Freeze Rows and
Columns" from the "View" menu. This places a tick against the menu item and
freezes the rows and columns in place. I then save the spreadsheet as an ".ods"
file (the default file extension).

Seemingly at random, when I open the spreadsheet again I find that no rows or
columns are frozen any more, however the "Freeze Rows and Columns" menu item is
ticked, seemingly indicating that they are. In order to freeze the again I
have to position the cursor in the appropriate cell (of the unfrozen
spreadsheet), click the menu item to remove the tick, then click it again to
trigger the action, freeze the rows and columns, and add the tick back, then
save the spreadsheet again. This has been occurring through at least the last
three generations of Libreoffice (including the current one). I have tried
creating the spreadsheet from scratch again, and even uninstalling Libreoffice
and reinstalling it, but the issue persists.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a spreadsheet with headings in Row 1 and Labels in column 1
2. Position the cursor in row 2 column 2
3. Select "Freeze rows and columns"
 from the "View" menu
4. Save the spreadsheet
5. Close Libreoffice
6. Open Libreoffice
7. Open the spreadsheet

Actual Results:
Either the first row and column remains frozen and the "freeze rows and
columns" menu entry is ticked
OR
No rows or columns are frozen but the "freeze rows and columns" menu entry is
ticked still

Expected Results:
The rows and columns frozen to be still frozen whenever the spreadsheet is
reloaded until the option is turned off.

Reproducible: Sometimes

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
I work between an Intel iMac and a Metal MacBook, both running the same version
number of Libreoffice at all times. The spreadsheets are stored on the iCloud
and are edited on both platforms depending on which machine I am using.

At no time is the spreadsheet open on both machines.

On pc Debian x86-64 with master sources updated today, I got an assertion.

Does it happen too with another database type (Firebird, Mysql or HSQLDB)?

I mean are we sure the culprit is Postgresql implementation or something
lacking in Basic code?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 154487] New: Enhancement Request: Allow LibreOffice Mail Merge to use default e-mail client

2023-03-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=154487

Bug ID: 154487
Summary: Enhancement Request: Allow LibreOffice Mail Merge to
use default e-mail client
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 4.0 all versions
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: ssi...@lsuhsc.edu

Description:
This is a feature request. LibreOffice should be able to compose e-mail
messages to mail merge, but it is NOT the responsibility of LibreOffice to
actually send the messages. Rather, they should be handed off to a proper
e-mail client such as Microsoft Outlook (or Mozilla Thunderbird).

Steps to Reproduce:
If it were possible to attach screenshots, I would do so here.

1.Start a mail merge to ANY data source, and it does not matter if it is
Letters or E-mail Messages.
2. On the Mail Merge toolbar, click "E-mail Merged Documents." It's the button
with an envelope positioned over two pieces of paper, the second such instance
of said icon in the toolbar.
3. Click "Send Document."

Actual Results:
I get asked for SMTP credentials.

Expected Results:
LibreOffice should offer me the option to open Microsoft Outlook. The messages
would then appear in my Outbox.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
My workplace suffered a ransomware attack in December 2022, and as a result, we
have banned all applications outside the Microsoft Outlook family from sending
or receiving e-mail messages, including LibreOffice.

Both LibreOffice and Microsoft Word via the PDFMaker add-on by Adobe (add-on
for Word, included with Acrobat) allow me to mail merge a document such that
the document is sent as a PDF attachment with a message that has a body.
However, the PDFMaker add-on does NOT offer me the option to CC anybody,
something from which I benefit greatly.

I trust LibreOffice developers to make changes more than I trust employees of
either Microsoft or Adobe. It's just the commitment to open-source software
that shows through everything you do.
