Here what I mean, even if it is only an example related to the specific topic
under consideration.

Your choice is to call it "Divisore" (MS calls it "Frazione" and you too in the
Guide) but you should still offer an explanation of what that type of
formatting means (not everyone is able to understand this and understand how to
use it).

In the current Guide it is impossible to find an effective help:
searching with the word "divisore" you get
https://help.libreoffice.org/7.2/it/search?P=divisore but nothing related to
the format,
you can go to
https://help.libreoffice.org/7.2/it/text/shared/01/05020300.html?=WRITER=WIN
... and then, from there?
searching INSTEAD with "frazione" you get
https://help.libreoffice.org/7.2/it/search?P=frazione
and then from here ("Inserire frazioni") you get also
https://help.libreoffice.org/7.2/it/text/scalc/guide/fraction_enter.html?=WRITER=WIN
but wherever it is adopted the term "frazione" and, in any case, a valid
explanatory guide on the use of the format "Divisore" is not available.

To better explain what I mean, I take for example the help offered by MS (in IT
but it should also be found in EN):
https://support.microsoft.com/it-it/office/numeric-formati-available-in-excel-0afe8f52-97db-41f1-b972-4b46e9f1e8d2
where you find "Frazione - Visualizza un numero come frazione, in base al tipo
di frazione specificato dall'utente." (translation: Fraction - Displays a
number as a fraction, based on the type of fraction specified by the user)
and then, in relation to "Frazione":
https://support.microsoft.com/it-it/office/visualizzare-i-numbers-as-fractions-0121ecac-1773-4f2d-8cd3-7db51fd83b77
where it is well explained how to display numbers as fractions.

It would also be useful to specify that the formats shown are only pre-set
examples, but the user can choose to customize the fractional format to his
liking (see attached sample.jpg for a cell containing the number 1,5).

So I understand gmarco's complaint to be about the help page not explaining
what the different formatting categories *are*. We have this page about
formats, but it is like a deep dive:
https://help.libreoffice.org/latest/en-US/text/shared/01/05020301.html?=CALC

gmarco: is your request to write new content, like a summary about each of the

Hi Olivier, I don't like to insist but I contest that it can be classified as
"worksforme".
It seems to me that, from 2017 to today, nothing substantial has changed: the
original problem has remained the same.
I will limit myself to just one example: suppose I want information and help on
the "Divisore" (in IT) format (from Format> Cells> Numbers) by clicking on
"Help" (see attachment "help.jpg").
What I find is disarming: misinformation and nothing useful (see attachments
"guida1" and "guida2": they are in IT but nothing changes in the EN version).
If you explain to me how an "apprentice" would acquire what he is looking for,
I will be grateful.

Really it seems the issue, thanks.

It is possible the real problem is the LibreOffice web server being incorrectly
configured regarding the file types, example:

Right, FIREFOX asks if I wish to open it with LO, but EDGE and Int.EXPLORER
download automatically as .zip (Who knows why?).

The thing is, it downloads as an .odt for me, not as a .zip. So it is your
browser.

Well, no need to rename the extension, I opened the file directly from WRITE
and ... OK.
But I think it is not a browser issue, the file that any browser would download
.zip (usually a compressed folder to decompress), and the .zip extension has no
association in Windows 10 that automatically decompresses it with a
doubleclick.
Here, too, it could be a matter of more explicit information, saying only "Open
it in LibreOffice" is not quite explicit: any Windows user, seeing .zip is
brought to click the file to decompress it.

ODF files are .zips in disguise, just like Microsoft's OOXML files. Your
browsers are somehow treating them only as archives and not recognizing them as
documents.

Please rename the .zip extension back to .odt. In the future you can consider
using a browser like Firefox.

What do you intend (which it actually is, but yeah..)?
I confirm it is .zip as said (also re-downloading), my usual browser is EDGE
(Win10) but Int.Expl. too download a .zip and the content is (look at the

It's not .zip, but .odt. Your browser must have somehow thought it is a .zip
file (which it actually is, but yeah..).

Hi Buovjaga,
I make extensive use of CALC and I happen to experience some malfunctioning or
having to look for a new solution method resorting to the help. I happen to not
find adequate explanation or lack of examples or anomalies in the text pages.
In both cases I take up the report, but unfortunately I do not have enough time
available to also ensure the management of possible help correction that
otherwise would do it with pleasure.
I have read the link provided and reading "Update our LibreOffice Help contents
... Click here to know how to write a help page." out of curiosity I clicked
and found
<< The very easy way, for newcomers
Short summary: Write a help page in a LibreOffice document and send it to us.
We will turn it into a help page, freeing you of the internals of creating XML
help page.
Detailed instructions:
Donwload this example of a help page template into your computer
Open it in LibreOffice
Insert contents by Following the instructions in the document
Review spelling and grammar, check readability
Send the document to us >>
I downloaded the example (template-help.zip) but inside I do not see any files
I can open in LO ?
