@morfuinvorn, KeepTools: thanks for the introduction of the use cases.

@KeepTools: it could result serious privacy issues, but you are right,
according the importance of the bug report and its history, it seems to be less
important, than I thought.

@Heiko: Indeed, infobar seems to be better. I'm going to check it.

The question to Laszlo in the first place is: was Bug 83958 a serious security
issue? (Its Importance field was set to "medium enhancement".)

Sure, but if the toolbar needs to be activated automatically the idea was to
not store whether it's on or off.

Question to Laszlo: how about showing an infobar?

I agree, that's the main point - if you need the bar, you turn it on manually,
if you don't want to see the bar - you turn it off and it doesn't appear until
you manually turn it on again. This is how I see it and this is how it worked
before with TC bar.

The security question is up to Laszlo. I guess we need an indicator that
everything being done is recorded via TC. If so, an alternative is to show an
infobar.

If we need the toolbar, how about to remember the previous state, meaning to
not make it visible at the next session when it was enabled automatically?

IMHO the argument in comment 1 is not correct: Bug 83958 is not a serious
security issue. It was a request made in 2014 with no additional requests since
then.
The Track Changes toolbar should remain hidden when it was deliberately hidden
via menu View - Toolbars, like all other toolbars do.

Sorry, but what does "automatic action" mean? None of the living people could
reproduce? I just downloaded the portable LO 7.1.1 from the specified link,
launched it and saw a spontaneously appearing change tracking panel in a
document with change tracking enabled, while in LO 7.0.4 this does not happen!
There the panel appears when I turn it on and disappears when I turn it off.
This is literally what was broken back in 7.1.0.

What is the security issue? Wasn't it a feature request from 2014?

It is annoying - to me - because I hardly use / display toolbars. (I use
keyboard shortcuts and menus. I am very pleased that Bug 115817 (the annoying
pop-up of the Navigation Toolbar) will be fixed in 7.2.0.)

As it is possible to choose not to show toolbars when selecting tables, images
etc., it should also be possible to leave the Track Changes toolbar hidden when
opening documents with tracked changes.

Reproduced in a portable build taken from here -
libreoffice.org/download/portable-versions. Default settings, after starting
Writer I don't change anything. Bugappears appears on newly created documents
with change tracking enabled. I did an experiment: I created 2 documents, 1.odt
and 2.odt. In the first, I did not enable change tracking, in the second I did.
If I open 1, then there is no panel. After closing and reopening the document,
it does not appear again. And if you first open 2 (the panel appears), then
close document and open 1, the panel remains on.
I can't find anything about the experimental sidebar in the settings, sorry.
But again, in the specified portable build, everything is by default from the
moment of launch.

This was a solution for a serious security issue reported in Bug 83958. It
would be possible to avoid this in the future by adding a Writer settings for
it (reintroducing the security issue for the users).

Could you give more information about your workflow? Do you use the
experimental sidebar to handle tracked changes, that is why is this so
annoying?
