This doesn't just affect one document. I'm have the same problem with a
spreadsheet I created in an earlier version of open office. LibreOffice crashes
with exactly the same

I just upgraded to LibreOffice 4.0 right now to test and I can confirm that the
problem file does work again as expected with LibreOffice 4.0. When I first
opened it, it gave a message about

I have the same problem here.
I have an ODS file that was created with Openoffice/Libreoffice (can't remember
exactly the version) and which was opening fine on the Libreoffice in Linux

Also, when I just sent it, I noticed that google drive/docs had no problem

I've found a work-around. I was able to open the problem spreadsheet just fine
in gnumeric. I then did a save-as. Gnumeric gave me two options for ODS
files:
ODF/OpenOffice with foreign
