OOOk, my earlier sentence Might ut be, I could Set simpler, high-contrast
theme, but my icons wouldn't be in high contrast. has no sense.

Ok I understand what you mean.
basically you ask redesign of that theme to improve it's readability.
if there some user interested doing the job he/she is welcome
in the meantime a new theme has

I think that icon set fully resolves this problem in all use cases.
Maybe, if one would like to see inverted icons at night..but it would be new
feature.
