The older version of LibreOffice was uninstalled. 2. The LibreOffice Help file was uninstalled. 3. C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice renamed to old_LibreOffice. 4. LibreOffice v. 4.4.4.3 was installed, as well as the LibreOffice helppack. On starting Writer, File and other menu items opened promptly. 5. Files in the old_LibreOffice were restored, a few at a time, until it was determined that restoring registrymodifications.xcu caused the issue to recur. 6. registrymodifications.xcu had grown from 47 kB after fresh installation to 1,369 kB in the file that was causing the issue. Unfortunately right now there's not much more that can be done outside of deleting the profile :( To be honest, I'm not entirely clear what the file does but I know it's been responsible for several environment specific problems. Thanks again for your understanding and feedback.
