Re: [Libreoffice-qa] Updater improvements
Hi, Would it be an idea to use mirrorbrain for this? That has already the supported versions. We could patch it so it can give us the files in JSON/XML-format rather then create our own little program for this. The downside is that mirrorbrain hasn't had a release in 1,5 years. So I don't know how active that is. Where is the check.php stored. I think Rainer just asked every few months when there where some deletionrequest. These bugs don't need to be removed straight away so to delete them once in a while is ok. Re: [Libreoffice-qa] [libreoffice-website] Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Engaging users: initial results of the survey
Fair enough. So you were expecting a link to the bugtracker either on the main page or from the BSA? I think he means that the 4.0-banner isn't what he expects. I don't know what is better. The banner has many uses for people that just want to download 4.0. (Rob - Thinking a bit broader, it would be nice if we could give users a single page that would display information about their activity on Bugzilla, the Ask site, etc. Using some form of SSO like OpenID or at least shared credentials (e.g. LDAP) could make this easier) you do realist that's a lot of work, also on systems we have no real knowledge about. But the idea would be great. However we do have more suggestions that can be added to ask, for example integration with OpenID and move a question to a bug (and visa-versa). 2. After going to the main website, I clicked on 'Get Help', and then clicked on 'Bug'... The only option here is to report a bug. What if I don't want to report a bug, but only want to search for bugs? Even after I log in, the only next step available is to continue reporting a bug I don't want/need to report!? Rob - Any thoughts here? There is already a enhancement-request to add the URL of bugzilla to the BSA. I didn't come around to it but we _really_ should implement that soon. I'll look into it. This is HORRIBLY BROKEN. How do I just log into the bug reporting system and search it? Anyone? To log in, navigate to http://bugs.freedesktop.org/ and click on the Log In link. To search the bugs, click on the Search link. I agree that we should make it easier for users to find and use Bugzilla. Tanstaafl -- we're actually right in the middle of some backend infrastructure improvements for Bugzilla, but I'll make sure that we spend some time on the frontend of things as well. Some requests for better UI in BSA are dependent on that work so it really needs to be done. But I think we can have the quick improvement of at least add the link. For launchpad there is launchpadlib: https://help.launchpad.net/API/launchpadlib which allows scripting in Python. This could be using to e.g.: - find all bugs on launchpad against LibreOffice (ubuntu) - copy the bug description into a new bug on fdo - link both bugs: - mark the fdo bug as a remote tracking bug in lp - add the lp bug as a see also: on fdo If someone volunteers on this I suggest getting in contact with Chris (https://launchpad.net/~penalvch) or Ubuntu Bugcontrol (https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-bugcontrol). Re: [Libreoffice-qa] Where should users report bugs?
Hi, On 05-11-13 15:49, Pedro wrote: Hi Qubit My opinion: Users should report bugs in a user friendly page that doesn't require registration. One example: The Mozilla feedback page https://input.mozilla.org/en-US/feedback That's not the bugtool for mozilla. This is the bugzilla bugtool: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Firefox I had a quick look at it, and it just puts the data people answer in a database and they have to be processed manually (if at all). So that means a lot more work. And I don't know who is going to do it. Ideally it is a good situation but I don't see the workforce to do that. Another issue I can see (don't know how they address it, as I see no spam there) is the spam. At the moment that is the reason why we want a login for the Fench BSA for example. No need to reinvent the wheel. Yes. Maybe it is a good thing to use for our feedback-page. I see the project has matured a lot this year. And maybe it is usable for us now. Somebody should look at it. But my point stands still like last year, we don't want to copy the problems they report manually to our bugzilla. If BSA and Bugzilla are the only options then only persistent geeks will report bugs. The upside is that persistent geeks make better bug reports. I think at the moment we do need good bugreports. As that lessens our workload. We can't keep up with the bugs as it stands. So my goal at the moment is to lessen our workload without scaring users more than we do. Finally: For Windows users (and they are probably the majority) all bugs have to be submitted to TDF/LO. I think that the company that produces the Windows distro is not going to fix any bugs in LO, let alone push bugs upstream :) For them not being able to file a bug against an old version is no problem. As they can easily update. In linux we don't want to force people to go outside their repositories. The size of the Linux-users is nothing we should lose however, so if there is a solution to this then I'm for it. Re: [Libreoffice-qa] Send Feedback...and BSA ideas
Hi All, My little contribution. I think we are going the wrong way totally. When the dev-list found gerrit it wasn't quite what they wanted. But they took it, tweaked it and are now using it, with great success (afaik). And here we are trying to create something new that stands between what we have as bugzilla and the ask-site. Why are we trying to take this hughe detour to get what we want? I think we need _really need_ our own bugzilla so we can tweak that install that it suits us better. Then we can make the bugs less complex and use usefull subcomponents. But then we can also install plugins we think are usefull. Tweaking bugzilla then so it comes really close with what we need is better then. Yes this is a road that needs time invested. But that is also needed for the other road. Just my €0,02 -- Greetings, Rob Snelders On 16-07-13 00:33, Bjoern Michaelsen wrote: Hi, On Mon, Jul 15, 2013 at 05:59:37PM -0400, Robinson Tryon wrote: I did that and I was told to stop. One big problem with Ask admins reporting a bug for a user is that the reporter isthe Ask admin. Do you run OSX 10.7? Do you run Windows Vista? I don't, so when a dev comes back and asks me for repro steps, I have to shrug and say Go talk to user XYZ on the Ask site and as you said, the devs don't use the Ask site! Yeah, its probably best to suggest users to file a bug and offer to help them along on #libreoffice-qa once the bug is triaged roughly. I dont think we need to bother with bugs as long as those are obviously not welltriaged. Another problem is that if they haven't provided enough information, we can't tag the question as NEEDINFO and let the Ask system pester them for more information (although this would be a *great* improvement that I'd like to see!) THB, I did something similar with a question recently: Asked a long idle incomplete question if there is an update on the missing info and then closed it as outdated a few days later as there was no reply. Many/most new users on the Ask site do not read old questions. Of the small number that do, most of them either know how to file a bug or learn very quickly. So I don't think that me filing bugs for people will have much value in leading by example (but I could be wrong...). Only file bugs for others when you can reproduce the bug. Otherwise guide them through filing their bug themselves. This also makes the motivation for a reproduction scenario clear to the other guy. So: Give the people a smooth migration path towards bugzilla and allow them to test the waters on askbot, instead of a migration scenario that requires a sleep all-in learning curve, which will make a lot of them just turn away. It's a novel idea, having people start on Askbot and then having them learn how to use the bugtracker later, and it's not something I'm entirely opposed to, but it's a very drastic change to how we've been using FDO and the Ask site up until now. Note that experienced users will should be encouraged to stay with fdo (and will likely do so all by themselves). So: If you now what bugzilla is, go with it, otherwise better stay with askbot. If you have (experienced users: bugzilla) behind on the feedback page, you can hopefully divide the stream at that point already successfull as those saying oh, I know bugzilla will go for it and those who do not will evade (experienced users: UNKNOWN_THING). -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi All, At first I want to have FR for now as Native Language and test with that. Maybe from May on we can start with other Languages. There are still some changes needed before we can add more languages without to many work. I think also that we should only make the BSA in Native Language for the countries with a bigger team. As you don't want to overload one person with the bugs of his/her language. So anyone who wants to have the BSA in his/her language should think hard and gather a group before starting. - -- Greetings, Rob Snelders P.S. Why is NL this much used? Okay, so the bug is only created after the NL team processes the text. The NL team also does some work to avoid duplication in Bugzilla (that sounds very helpful!) The FR project has an active QA Team, able to test and specify bugs but not all of them are able to report in English. The actual test will help us to narrow the needs for both teams and if it's proven to work, let other well formed NL QA teams participate. The first question in my mind is: How do we make ensure that NL reports from the BSA get dealt with in a prompt manner? With the current BSA, there's no human interaction required before the bug data hits FDO. It sounds like the FR-localized team is pretty active, and has its own QA team, so we should hopefully see a fast turnaround, but I wonder what might happen with the NL teams for other languages. What do you think about putting someone in charge of each NL BSA? That person could serve as the point contact, and would be asked to check-in with the QA team every week or two (at the QA meeting would be great, but probably not necessary). The NL-BSA contact would let us know how the interface is working, if there have been any issues with the process, if the NL list has gotten behind in dealing with bug reports, etc... I would like that we test this process, narrow it and add what will be missing (like the stats you make on BSA reports), and then see if it's a real help for you. +1 Cheers, --R ___ List Name: Libreoffice-qa mailing list Mail address: Libreoffice-qa@lists.freedesktop.org Change settings: http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-qa Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/libreoffice-qa/ -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.11 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Thunderbird - http://www.enigmail.net/ iQEcBAEBAgAGBQJRR5S9AAoJEGs78UIq7mKyKDIIAK3R5YfVC/Fuw0Fhz2PLn6vA TmSgJH5NyugMkhYYseOAbKkEQiymSWjsSkyCwzGtV4YWD8A57kx0hqsSNWprgJAg XBbkhPaqbaIHr1cbYLQHvpIR0hY0wt9YKDUXGEZNXr+nIJkJwk8hExCG/FHav86g NZGdvt/4dwgOa0Y1T4fwrGEewjBZkJXQZoF/zUaecw4hUL4z5ccjYJzcl1kWE0EO Z0h9QBzhVp2D705dKq2TzFxIk9Re9+bHlXVuKyzIFXxoQWQJ1ca5BvtkiHXkluvt rLTTCbRcoynUizG/HYOvL8droUZMOhgIqkUrISEQ8UHb1NNxpvb3xbRjMPzbWx8= =NCrN -END PGP SIGNATURE- ___ List Name: Libreoffice-qa mailing list Mail address: Libreoffice-qa@lists.freedesktop.org Change settings: http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-qa Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/libreoffice-qa/

And after that I added a new mistake with the nbsp; due to obsolete private notes (without thinking about them), some (long) time ago that was necessary with oder Wikimedia for getting some templates working. I corrected my notes and corrected Wiki:BugReport_Details back to normal paces in the Component name. So this problem should no longer exist? The change to nbsp; was the only problem. The rest doesn't give problems. any module-name change breaks the BSA Of course changes in Bugzilla and Wiki have to be done synchronously and afterwards BSA has to be updated, and that's similar to Version changes from rc to release. That's known and accepted. But that should not cause an enduring break? Maybe my wording was wrong. But indeed if wiki and Bugzilla differ in names then it doesn't update anymore. Of course syntax rules have to be respected. I will add some syntax hint for the wiki https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Bug_Submission_Assistant#Data_sources matching with the current needs. What Else? I will check existing AIR bugs and add some some appropriate sub components, soon. After some basic change help of AIR users will be appreciated, that does not run on my prehistoric Android 2.1 tablet, so that I have no own experience. For example: do we have some help in that App leading to the BSA? I don't know. However, the Fraunhofer logo is rendered incorrectly (upper graph in Logo_problem.png). The correct rendering is the one shown as lower graph in that file. I could not test it on 4.0 myself because on my computer I use at work, LO 4.0 crashed at startup, I do not have access to it over the weekend.
