a line or two of grand staff, simple rhythms, few markup symbols.
I don't need to be able to generate complex scores.

Anyhow, I managed to get things working by running ly2dvi without the -p
option and then dvips.
Ok, this means that PDF generation is broken. You can also use ly2dvi
-P, which only generates dvi and postscript.

Please rerun setup.exe, and make sure that in the package view
dialoge, you select LilyPond from the Publishing section.
Click on '+Publishing', then on 'skip' next to LilyPond.

If it doesn't work, you may try to run updmap after installation, or
invoke dvips by hand, adding -u psfonts.map:
dvips -ta4 -u lilypond.map -u psfonts.map -oheader.ps header.dvi
