Development or stable version?

After recently asking about the use of \repeat inside \parallelMusic I was recommended to download to the latest "development" version of Lilypond. At the time I said I wouldn't do this, but would wait for the next "stable" version. But shortly afterwards, I realised that I needed to use

Figured out the answer to my own question: 1) Download the binary for the latest development release 2) Unpack the tarball 3) Rename the application file to LilyPond-dev 4) Copy into Applications 5) Create command line alias scripts which point to the development version --
