James,
Have you consulted any specific LinuxONE or Linux on Z network performance
tuning documentation yet? There are many other parameters and settings that
can influence performance.
I learned a lot from your discussion. Thanks.
My question was from a network micro benchmark test which simulated OLTP
workloads generating packet less than 200 bytes typically. And our result
was only half of the x86's. It's easy to re-produce using uperf/netperf by
sending huge amount of small
For z14, you DO need to update (rewrite) anything that can be loaded from
the HMC. This includes SAPL (use SALIPL to update *after* you have
installed the service) and stand alone dump. Also make sure the correct
versions (latest levels) of the modules on the parm disk (MAINT CF1) that

The drawback to waiting for the new hardware to IPL as Scott suggests is that
if something goes wrong, you don't know if the problem is with your new CPLOAD
MODULE or the new hardware. It's safer to change one thing at a time.

That's pretty much what I figured but needed to confirm. Thanks.

Since they are to CP - no - you need to load the newly rebuilt CPLOAD.
But since you will be doing that anyway when you move to the z14, I don't
see an issue. Just apply the maintenance, do a PUT2PROD and you should be
ready to IPL on the z14. (or come up with it if you have an unexpected
No such luck.
You'll need an IPL to get those on.

Greetings list,
Like many places, we don't have a lot of prep time and can't afford many
outages for maint. That said, we're looking to upgrade our 630 systems for
the move over upgrading right away to 640 with all the pre-reqs. While so
many fixes now being dynamic, I am hoping that the
Greetings Gadi,
As most of zuess and zoom are written in bash, you can get a taste of it
via any Unix, Linux, Macintosh, Windows or (theoretically) MVS Unix
Systems Services (USS)...
That said, your mileage will clearly vary.
