What kind of disk are you using (ramac III, rva,
shark?). They have considerably different performance
profiles. On a single channel, where you have to read,
then write, this would be going at 1/2 device speed as
there is no channel overlap.

Rick, I did all my installs under VM, then ipl'd them
in an LPAR.
The modprobe for cpint is looking for a module that
talks to VM. I wonder if there is an assumption that
the build is under VM because cpint is not used in
LPAR mode.

finding that with a lot
of systems labeled /, the Redhat default, then
reparing the volumes from another system or cloning
them is a bit of a nuisance. Labels work fine in fstab
and zipl.conf, but, if you have a lot volumes, its
easier if the labels are unique (volser?)

The dasd= is not placed in the boot record by zipl
or mkinitrd. Is it that the boot record has to be
updated by zipl to get to the new initrd module?

Unfortunately, whenever I put in a release of Linux, I
do have to open the telnet and ftp ports so that the
users have a single interface to all *IX platforms.

Another possibility is to put /usr/share on a 3rd
volume, depending on how your /usr is set up.
But do you really expect /usr to expand much beyond
the 63% full?
