There was a problem with one of our IBM SAN boxes recently. Yesterday, the SAN
team asked my to shut down my SLES 11 SP3 server so that they could move the
LUN to a new box. They provided two WWPN's for the A fabric and two WWPN's for
the B fabric.
I tried to boot the server when told that th

I doubt that they expose the difference between an IFL and a GP (General
Purpose) engine as an IFL, basically, is a GP engine loaded with different
microcode (to prevent the engine from being able to run z/OS). It is a full
speed engine where a GP engine can be slowed down, via microcode, to r
Hi,
It depends on how the dasd subsystem is configured to the processor(s). If
using traditional mainframe, ECKD, dasd the info is in the I/O gen (the IOCDS)
loaded into each machine/lpar. If using SAN, it depends on how the SAN is
defined up for the various processors.

Until you get around to disabling cio_ignore you can run the following command
to update the blacklist when you add a volume to Linux to enable it to be seen:

Mike,
I don't have this problem with my SLES 11 SP3 systems on System z as cio-ignore
was not enabled, by default, at installation time. I encountered this problem
with SLES 12 on System z as cio-ignore is enabled by default. I was just

Peter,
Thanks for the tip but

This changes the symlink ctrl-alt-del.target from reboot.target to
shutdown.target, at least on Fedora 15. I am assuming that SLES 12 is similar.

Hi,
Just providing my 2 cents, take it for what it's worth...
For the 7+ years I have been supporting Linux on System z we have a typical set
up of one 3390-9 to contain the SLES installation, one 3390-3 as swap space,
and one virtual disk for swap (the size depends on the nature of the server)
