We don't have TCPIP available in VSE so we can't use it unmodified in VSE. A
similar problem is in VM, we have IP stacks in VM that cannot reach the Xymon

they probably would be in the same IP segment as the zVM

Hi Tom,
Yes, we use Xymon with HOBBITVM to monitor z/VM and z/VSE. Though VSE is quite
crude, the monitoring is done by checking the OPERATOR log, where we collect
some messages from commands to VSE. (OPERATOR issues an ASO command, the output
is found in the OPERATOR log.)

Also, Velocity has plugins for the above to provide better detail.

If Xymon can talk SNMP, which it probably can if it's monitoring network
equipment, there's an SNMP 'agent' (?) that's part of z/VSE that will tell you
if the System is responding, at a minimum. I believe there is other info you
can get from the SNMP 'agent' as well. I've played with it some

We use Xymon to monitor all of our servers, regardless of platform. I
have not done VSE as we don't have it. However, there is a client that
works on z/OS, which we use a lot. It probably can be modified to work
on VSE. I think Rich Smrcina wrote it.

z/VSE?

Yes, thanks Martha, I'm aware of xymon. I currently have the server running on

there was a RPM for it.

We use Xymon a great deal, it monitors all of our servers and network

z/VM and z/OS (thanks Rich!). Its all PhP based, so I don't think an

Anyone doing xymon on zLinux? Know where a RPM for ClefOS might be found?

I have xymon installed on several servers and it appears that the only thing
I can monitor is CPU LOAD which is different from CPU % utilization. Has anyone

I've got the xymon 1.3 client running on z/VM 5.3 and 5.4 systems.
Some *very* nice work by Rich Smrcina and Tom Kern. Thanks, gents.
There is one small issue in exec HOBVMDSK:
Original code looks like this, starting around line 99:
if right(total,1)='K' then
total=left(total,length
Thomas provided the original fix for this, but I'll take full credit for
biffing up the parens.
I appreciate the update, Pat.
