Sorry, only saw this discussion today.
mtp works for me partially.
kio-mtp is the only one that works for me, however it is also unstable.
Many times the phone must be reinitialize to support mtp, because it losses
it's capabilities to do so.
sftp, adb and even kdeconnet works well for me, but I

IANAL, either, but I would be interested to know what the *statutory*
warranty in Israel is. I googled and even
Oleg Shalom,
I'm pretty sure that the link you provided is a generic
Samsung warranty (for appliances, TVs, etc) and not specifically for
phones, so that would explain why there's no mention of rooting.
I do know that the Scailex (official importer) warranty on Galaxy
phones is even more
The question is not limited to phones. E.g. you may also update the
firmware of your television, see:

If I could rely on the fact that the manufacturer/seller would have to
rescue me if I accidentally bricked my TV set, I might be more likely to

I have the same problem on Mageia3 with a new Galaxy phone. I've

When I got my Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini, I was warned that MTP doesn't

With MTP and similar stuff on cameras a lot of GUIs on different
platforms don't even offer unmount options, and yes fsck wouldn't do
anything since you don't have access to the filesystem, only to a
software layer in front of the filesystem (which also helps the device
OS protects its' files).

There is a partial solutions if your phone is rooted (although I
haven't tried it yet). Look at USB Mass Storage Enabler:
Hello,
I'm using Arch Linux, and have Samsung Galaxy S4.
It uses MTP in order to allow me to access files.
I'ved read several wiki's (Including Arch wiki) and forums about it, and
came out for the following settings (/etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules),

We have a camera at home that won't transfer/open files when it's
connected to the USB 3.0 ports of the computer, it will only function
properly when connected to USB 2.0 ports (and 1).
