Debian doesn't use the init level as redhat or mandrake (3=console,5=gui). if you with to get console mode, just remove the xdm/kdm/gdm link from /etc/rc2.d or change it to start with K instead of a S (kill / start). If you wish, you can mimic the redhat behavior, but that's not the system defaul

Hi all, I am trying to install the nvidia drivers on debian, and I can't figure out what to do to boot into console mode (no x server) on debian. My system has a default run level of 2 I wasn't sure what level corresponds to no x only console mode. runlevel one was defenetly no good, as is 2 and
