If the hang was a crash which you didn't get a chance to capture the
last kernel log, you can use kdump to collect them. The kernel log
tells what kind of crash it is, a NULL pointer deref, a kernel page fault
etc..

If the hang was a hard lockup, you have to turn on lockup detector
and also kdump to capture what the detector tells.

[PATCH tip/core/rcu 05/12] rcu: Use irq_work to get scheduler's attention in clean context

When rcu_read_unlock_special() is invoked with interrupts disabled, is
either not in an interrupt handler or is not using RCU_SOFTIRQ, is not
the first RCU read-side critical section in the chain, and either there
is an expedited grace period in flight or this is a NO_HZ_FULL kernel,
the end of the grace period can be unduly delayed.  The reason for this
is that it is not safe to do wakeups in this situation.

This commit fixes this problem by using the irq_work subsystem to
force a later interrupt handler in a clean environment.  Because
set_tsk_need_resched(current) and set_preempt_need_resched() are
invoked prior to this, the scheduler will force a context switch
upon return from this interrupt (though perhaps at the end of any
interrupted preempt-disable or BH-disable region of code), which will
invoke rcu_note_context_switch() (again in a clean environment), which
will in turn give RCU the chance to report the deferred quiescent state.

Of course, by then this task might be within another RCU read-side
critical section.  But that will be detected at that time and reporting
will be further deferred to the outermost rcu_read_unlock().  See
rcu_preempt_need_deferred_qs() and rcu_preempt_deferred_qs() for more
details on the checking.

another country for investment. The funds was moved to a  private finance
company who were specialist bank that accepts deposits from high net worth
individuals and blue chip corporations that handle valuable products or
undertake transactions that need immediate access to cash. Mr. Mohammed
Raji told me he wanted the money there as soon as he got into the country.
This was the last communication we had; this transpired last 2010, we
later got a call from the finance Company informing us about the
inactivity of that particular portfolio.

This was an astounding position as far as I was concerned, given the fact
that I managed the International private banking sector I was the only one
who knew about the deposit, and I could not understand why Mr. Mohammed
Raji had not come forward to claim his deposit.

The disappearance of Mr. Mohammed Raji which was later confirmed that he
was killed in of one of the bomb attack in Iraq.  This bank has spent
great amounts of money trying to track this man's family; they have
investigated for months and have found no family. The investigation has
come to an end. My proposal is I want to introduce you to the bank as the
next of kin in a position to instruct the Finance company to release the
deposit to you as the closest surviving relation.

Upon receipt of the deposit, I am prepared to share the money with you.
That is: I will simply nominate you as the next of kin and have them
release the deposit to you.25% of the total fund will be given to you for
your position as the next of kin. while I will keep the 75% for my retirement.

I would have gone ahead to ask the funds be released to me but that would
have drawn a straight line in my involvement in claiming the deposit. I

I don't think it really makes sense to tie PDC handling with the
attention button.  It might happen to avoid the problem on your
system, but I don't see the logical connection between them.

Can you reproduce this by disabling pciehp and driving this sequence
manually with setpci?  I suspect that we are tripping over our own
feet because we read PCI_EXP_SLTSTA once, clear it (probably too
early), then queue multiple events, then process those events possibly

Somehow PDC bit get set, and during handling interrupt that is caused by
CC, that PDC also get handled, and the card get powered on again.

In pcie_enable_notification(), we already only enable notification
for PDC when attention button is not there.
So we can safely add checking in pciehp_isr() to skip that PDC handling.

I'm not sure what convention is in other drivers, but this seems less
readable to me.

I'd prefer that the magic numbers were assigned to a #define that
corresponds to a TRM name in some header. Then you have names in the
assignment instead of meaningless numbers.

I guess what irks me personally more is that it hides the write-mask as well

So I guess something like the following would also define it somewhat future-
proof
