In general, I believe that any modem that is "hardware based" or says it has an "onboard DSP" ought to work in linux. I am using a Best Data 56K "Smart One" (Model 56USB-SP / 56USB-SPMAC / 56USBP). My experience is that it works flawlessly for dial-out, but for dial-in suffers from the same pr
