Thanks, I found 'eject' in deselect - I will install it. Could the conflict between drives be due to the 'old' 2.4.18 kernel that i am using? I think i read somewhere that that was the first version that included usb support. If so maybe there were bugs that have since been fixed. Regards, Bil

Those are 3 good suggestions. I will take them in order and tell what I discovered. 1. I don't seem to have an 'eject' command on my system. Do you know if there is a package that I could install that would give me that capability? 2. I ran lsof at various times and there was nothing accessing
