Have you tried Fastlynx?
I remember using it on DOS3.3 (yeah I'm that old)

I would use dos apps xtree/ xtlink if you can get xtree on both
machines. An alternative would be a neat little transfer app which was
part of drdos many years ago. It ran over a null modem cable and had the
ability to install itself on the 'slave' machine over the cable. Now if
i can find my drdos

I've seen (on an old PDA) a bootstrapped zmodem implementation, that was

I think a basic kermit may be small enough to type in ...

You may need to start the capture on the second computer before starting the
copy on the first computer.
you could see if any of the old serial protocols like zmodem exist on
the dos machine.
I haven't used this stuff since BBS days.

I doubt you'll get SLIP or PPP for dos 2.4, however ...
If you connect via a nul-modem cable (TX-RX, RX-TX), and run a terminal
program in DOS that supports some kind of file transfer like kermit, zmodem
or something of that vintage, then I reckon you can get the files over that
way.
Good Luck

Anyone know what serial2serial works with DOS 2.4? Anyone with the requisit
