Have just installed Seamonkey Composer (WYSIWYG HTML editor) 2.0.11 onto
my Ubuntu 10.4.2
(Side note: Needed to replace my KompoZer, because it's become buggy
and does not seem actively supported any more. Criteria was WYSIWYG,
free, Linux, currently supported, Synaptic-friendly.

Two are helpful - system load which displays things like
memory/cpu/network etc in the panel.
workspace number - even more useful, as it allows you to see the number
of the workspace
Why not just use classic mode instead?

Exploring all the menus, particularly settings under Edit Preferences
is essential when playing with something new. There you find under
Appearance is what will happen when Seamonkey starts up. Turn off
Browser, turn on Composer.
Right click Seamonkey entry in Internet menu add to panel.
I don't use seamonkey at all but a very quick google search resulted in a
post that states
You can have the composer open by default by going to Edit - Preferences
- Appearance - When SeaMonkey starts up, open - Composer
