That's pretty normal, the driver doesn't support the read() interface. Try
using applications such as luvcview, ucview or ekiga, they should work fine.

The UVC spec allows devices to use either bulk or isochronous transfers. Most
webcams went for isoc. Bulk-based UVC devices are not common.

it is a 4063 rather than 4056 that it's a
slightly newer unit. It would be nice if Creative listed things like
that on the boxes.

while streaming. The driver currently allows that but doesn't handle the
request properly. It might make the webcam crash.
I plan to fix it, probably by disallowing frame rate changes while streaming.

The UVC driver requires Linux kernel 2.6.15 or newer. It might be possible to
backport it to 2.4.x but that would require lots of work (and probably a
backport of the 2.6 USB stack).

Your camera doesn't support MJPEG. You can select the YUV format with
luvcview -f yuv.
