Pfsense 》interfaces 》add bridge and add lan and your new interfaces to it.
You will then have multiple lan interfaces acting the same as your lan. Or
same as as router with multiple lan ports would.

hi stefan,

i sniff at the switch where pfsense meets the the dmz and web servers -- a
prosmiscuous port that sends all packets for analysis to alienvault ossim [1].

they have a really nice distro/appliance for intrusion detection with
reporting, ticket system, etc. a bit complicated to setup, but once you
understand it, it is really quite cool. i use the freeware version running
inside vmware.

cheers

Re: [pfSense] LTE/3G card for APU boards

2014-10-03 Thread Ryan Coleman
This isn't for that type of deployment, however. It's for monitoring a
video recording system on a utility pole in the far reaches of a major
public utility.

I am trying to replace a Sierra Wireless GX440 for future deployments
and the USB and open source platform won't be enough to convince the
customer. I think the price for the GX440 is way over the top (at $900).

Hmm. Employer owes me an APU board - I might have them pick up a miniPCIe
modem to test on it (thus less cost to test the whole system out).

Here's what I will suggest. Get this device:

and connect to it via ethernet from pfSense. You can use the USB port
on your APU board to power it, even.

I asked the company that makes it which is the one modem they have the
least problems with and they said this one:

http://shop.proxicast.com/shopping/sierra-wireless-aircard-313u-3g-4g-lte-usb-modem-global-unlocked-no-contract.html
with an AT&T SIM.

I am currently stuck with a Verizon UML290 and it disconnects every
3-4 days and the only way out is power cycle, which sucks. The problem
is not with the proxiport device, it is the modem. The modem did the
same thing when plugged directly into pfSense via USB.

One more advantage of the proxiport is that sometimes hot plugging the
modem would wedge the system running pfSense and that was very
disruptive. Rebooting the proxiport is not a catastrophic event like
that.

I saw something in the forums without an answer from July about this...

I have a solution request for remote systems that would have WiFi *and*
LTE/3G modems. What's on the compatibility list for pfSense that would
also
be on the APU list? I know I have 2 miniPCIe slots to use, one would have
the WiFi card (already found this one).

All of the cards on NetGate's website are 802.11, there are no listed
3G/4G/LTE cards.

Thanks,
Ryan

Re: [pfSense] LTE/3G card for APU boards

2014-10-03 Thread Vick Khera
If you ever want to go redundant with your firewalls, you'll need
something to share the LTE connection for you. This device is perfect
for this purpose, which was my main reason for getting it.
