I can confirm this behaves quite well - just set up your VLANs in pfSense, and your SSIDs in the UniFi controller to go into different VLANs and should "just work". We are using Ubiquiti Edge router and Unifi APs to route multiple SSIDs to VLANs. I am sure (since Unifis can handle VLANs very well) that pfSense can be used. We are using pfSense VLANs to route multiple WANs from one NIC. From what I've glanced at in the freebsd-questions mailing list, wireless with FreeBSD is very much a hit or miss situation. I'd definitely stick with an external access point. My company has a D-Link DAP-2660. It's not running through pfSense though. It has multiple SSID capability although we're not using it. You can configure each SSID to a VLAN.
