Re: [WSG] Site content stolen is there anyone to report it to in the USA
Thanks, I have blocked IPs collecting email address as well, everyday, more and more IP email address collectors. Sorry for the ban on some Melbourne IPs Lawrence. I have most things spam proof, email addresses hidden in javascript and lots of fake emails addresses on pages with META tags noindex nofollow. I have a bog-trag as well which robots can stuck in which creates endless fake email addresses. http://www.hereticpress.com/Private/members.foo If a robot follows such pages I ban them by IP and sometimes user-agent, Not an accessible solution, but I have had pirates take content before and display my pages in in a frame on their own site. The google cached version of the page seems to be after they removed my content. I never reach for lawyers, I also have the domain http://www.avoidlawyerspicnics.com If I open up the site and remove most of the banned IPs, I will get thousands of visits from bad-bots who serve no purpose at all. Sorry for anyone denied access unjustly, should I cast all fears aside and open it up completely. I would like my author's content protected, but do not wish to deny access to legitimate browsers. Thanks for the advice everyone. RE: [WSG] Site content stolen is there anyone to report it to in the USA
You could report it but I doubt anybody would do anything about it unless you pursued it with a lawyer over there, hardly worth it. Just alter the images to be something offensive, that'll make them change it pretty quickly. Otherwise just ring them up and have a chat, if you use Skype then it'll be free calling. Hello Tim, Can understand that your fairly miffed. Just remember that it really is a compliment. Write to them and let them know that they should have asked permission and that you would like the feed to be removed asap. If they don't respond to your request then you could consider asking a lawyer write a demanding letter. That usually works. Another reminder really that we should have a better understanding of IP and copyright - but I'm quite sure that it is commercial law which means you may need to cough up some doh to pursue All the best, Melissa. Re: [WSG] Site content stolen is there anyone to report it to in the USA
Not sure what the law is in the US, but I think its the same the world over - if they republish your material, that will be in breach of copyright. Can you grab a cached snapshot of their page from Google? That will prove it. Suggest you write to them and say you will sue them for breach of copyright / claim legal costs from them unless they quit. Title: Re: [WSG] Site content stolen is there anyone to report it to in the USA I remember a couple of years ago this happening to a woman on another list Im on. They were linking to her graphics folder so she just added huge letters on top of the original graphics saying something like STOLEN FROM ANOTHER DESIGNER! That site came down pretty quick too!!
