Re: [Liverpool] Ideas for talks
That sounds great, thanks Julian. I will post it on the blog now. It is very short notice to come up with a talk, so a workshop sounds good. Re: [Liverpool] Ideas for talks
It's tomorrow. I'll be there and can plug in my laptop to the screen and have a look around what it's doing. Ill do this more as a group workshop than a talk coz I dont know linux well enough to recognize everything. I've just got the bare principles. To me it looks like about half a dozen crazy hacks that seem by chance to achieve everything they need to do. It feels lucky rather than being a big piece of philosophy (that comes afterwards). It's kind of like the luxury of being able to feel that money isn't important in life if you happen to have a trust fund, if that makes sense. Julian Julian. Thanks for that Seb, we can pick something off that list for next time as you say. Julian, the next LUG meet is Weds March 2nd. Are you ok to talk about NixOS at that? Re: [Liverpool] Ideas for talks
Now that we are top posting :-) ... Looking through my notes, I seem to have given talks on the following topics over the years: 1. Introduction to Asterisk VoIP system 2. Further configuration of Asterisk 3. UEFI and GPT 4. Introduction to VLAN's 5. Syncthing 6. Introduction to setting up DNS 7. Setting up an outgoing smtp server (mainly using Exim) 8. Setting up and configuring SpamAssassin 9. Using dm-crypt / cryptsetup for root partitions 10. I think there were 1-2 presentations on the cctv system for buses I was working on - which is now technically defunct 11. I think I gave a presentation on mapping for OSM - but can't find the notes 12. I'm pretty sure I showed the clocking in / attendance software I was working on. That is still a current project, installed and running at clients. It's really down to whether there is interest in any of the topics above from anyone. If all else fails, I could give a presentation on installing Slackware :) On the other hand, if Julian is ready with his Nixos talk, we could have that this week, and we can pick something from the above for one of the next meets. What day is livlug? I could show off some of what I understand of nixos. I've had it as my laptop operating system for 4 months now and am not an expert or very skilled at it, which probably makes me better at explaining it than someone who knows it instinctively. Julian. Re: [Liverpool] Ideas for talks
Yes, I agree that the 3 halfs of this idea are great. A possible 4th half would be it could give us a chance to discuss any updates which have been made to the subject of the original talk - with a 4th n a half half being we could discuss other members who might have tried to implement the original subject on the basis of the discussion -- Liverpool mailing list Liverpool@mailman.lug.org.uk https://mailman.lug.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/liverpool
