It is quite ironic how easy it is to modify many lines of GPL source code
yet how difficult it is to document that very same code into a wiki format.

Yes, that's the point. It's quite the same as on Wikipedia. You're not
allowed to copy text from Wikipedia without attribution either. Most
of Wikipedia's text is licensed under CC-BY-SA.
