Hi oeai-2! I was one of the artists who provided a song for the album. I was also one of those who - kind of - made the contest and album come true, but the real credit must go to Avelocity (Uros and other artists). I am so rude that I toss my idea behind the album out: Promote the software LMMS and what can be created with it. In my head the album wasn't created to showcase LMMS artists, but to showcase the program. Perhaps would Google Music better showcase the artists, but that wasn't the goal.
Personally I have nothing against putting the album up on Google Play Music. On the other hand I don't think it is worth bothering. The album hasn't been a huge success (from what I have heard/read), and it doesn't generate a lot of money. You hint to that one would generate more money, and this I have no reasons to believe. The LMMS world is a small world and the artists not very famous. Some of them makes extraordinary music - in some persons opinion - however if the songs these artists made had been ground breaking, some of these artists surely would have been famous by now? Do you know about a famous artist which uses LMMS? LMMS might seem as a professional software, perhaps it is a professional software, still it is freeware and right now it seems it will continue to be. This means a lot of things about the program, but also when it comes to the world spanning around the program. Those who work for and on LMMS work for free (except random donations). Many users have little music experience and/or money when they begin with LMMS, thus the quality of a lot of songs created in LMMS isn't the best. And now back to the idea of making a Google Music artist account. I like it! It is only 25 dollars in total. If artists of chosen songs agrees on putting their songs up there, both they and LMMS would get more publicity. A bit off-topic: oeai-2, would you like to join a team which each week decides on one song to publish/promote on the LMMS Facebook page? The team currently consists of nobody. To sum it up: I am not pro nor con this suggestion. I have too little time to think and make up my mind, actually. I do think that in the future (need more persons/staff) it could be beneficial. What needs to be discussed is whether the songs would be free of charge or paid on this potential account. I agree with Uros on that it would turn into some kind of label if the artists claimed some of the money - which we much rather would want them to claim from a real label, and so I was picturing that all the songs should be free. -- View this message in context: http://linux-multimedia-studio-lmms.996328.n3.nabble.com/make-some-noise-tp8937p8957.html Sent from the lmms-devel mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Accelerate Dev Cycles with Automated Cross-Browser Testing - For FREE Instantly run your Selenium tests across 300+ browser/OS combos.
