KVR may not be willing to import our archived forum records because it
would most likely take massaging to restore it without restoring all of the
user accounts as well.
What I find interesting though is that Jonathan has already registered at
tuxfamily so I'm curious why we aren't having conversa
Which means it can be ported to KVR? Do someone want this backup and provide
it to KVR or the next forum host site?

Ok thanks for the clarificattion and your work on these backups etc. Reason
i mentioned the issue of the wiki is another project i follow their mailing
list and they are having issues with their wiki no longer being accessible.
I am trying to take a DB dump to be safe and its failing to download.
Sure, me too. The database backup is in the FTP root directory.
And you know the wiki is not a hosted app but instead hosted in the project
web? That's not going to disappear.

I think we are a bit suprised as they did not give another warning or
deadline saying hey by such and such a date we will be cutting the services
so please migrate before then.

Oh and btw: SourceForge did encourage their users to migrate hosted apps
three years ago: http://sourceforge.net/blog/hosted-apps-retirement/
We should not act that surprised.

Of course they didn't delete the content. Jonathan just couldn't find the
backup even though it's simply in the FTP root directory.

Do I understand that SF deleted the forum without any forewarning?
Is it possible? Did they only save what they could migrate, and other
things have just been deleted?
This is really mad! I hope there is a solution! SF is a very bad
platform and all, but deleting contents without warning!!

None that I am aware of :(

This is one of the main reasons of using another phpBB and import the

just like to add, that the old forum also is part of the history of lmms.
This is imho not a trivial fact. It is amazing how far the project has
traveled. This also deserves attention.

I think you should go ahead and contact them, Jonathan!
Tres: There is a lot of old knowledge there, yes. Probably not too dangerous
to lose, as most of it is just faults with LMMS, and they would probably be
reported again. The few fixes and howtos in the old forums is however,
irreplaceable.

The #1 reason I'd advocate for it is to keep around old knowledge-base

@Rozmus, the SF site doesn't "suck". It may be dated, but HTML5 fixes
absolutely nothing with anything (unless you plan to rewrite the LSP, and
even then, almost nothing). But first, we need to discuss if we plan to

Guys, I could host the forum/website without any problem. I guess it would
be far more flexible than KVR's subforum. Hosted 24/7 on 100Mbit/s with
virtually anything possible to install. PS: I could also design some modern
HTML5-ish website, cause the SF one sucks.

What I am going to do is contact kvr and ask them if they coudl give us a
section in their forums. IF they do, then that eliminates anyone needing to
host a forum, manage it, and moderate it.
Ironically their forums are phpbb powered.
What worries me the most though is importing of our SF forum p

Someone really needs to take charge in making the forum decisions because
we have a few recommendations and suggestions but conversation sort of dies

I'd like to see us head over to KVR out of simplicity and similarities in

Hey all,
As I just found out SourceForge got the forums down, I offer my shell
server for hosting both the website and forums (for free, of course). It
has everything from PHP and MySQL to Perl, Python and Ruby. All you'd
probably need is just a domain.
