Yes.. this class is in the websphere.jar file and I have included it - along with
log4j-1.2.8.jar - in my WEB-INF/lib directory.

My guess is you're missing a class
. And sure enough when I change Tomcat settings to use the IBM JDK , it works.
Does anyone know if there is a workaround for this because the we need to use the Sun
jdk?

Which looks just fine. But nothing gets logged to the fallback log
