[Lubuntu-desktop] precise artwork
Hi, people: I have updated the artwork (again). I REALLY recommend you to replace your Ozone3 theme with this one (a lot of improvements solve several bugs). Also, the wallpaper is ready (after a selection process). Again no option for colour (sorry) for us and Xubuntu devs (also Kubuntu are "slaved" to its plasmoid style) due to "Canonical restrictions". If you feel better, the new artwork package will include all previous Lubuntu themes and some walls by the Flickr community. Check out: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/Artwork/Incoming/Precise/Ozone As always, feedback is appreciated. Thanks. -- <><><>___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop Post to : lubuntu-desktop@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Roadmap for 12.04
Well, I'm working on it. At the first time I was adapting an already made theme, but now the theme has been totally reworked from scratch. The intention is being really clear and sharp, with the contrast and simplicity in mind. You can check it out (not downloads yet) here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/Artwork/Incoming/Precise/Ozone The GTK2 part is almost complete (two controls remining). The GTK3 is half-done. It could be nice if Lubuntu uses its own greeter, like KDM does, focusing on Lubuntu-ish themeing and speed. If you're going to plan to port it to GTK3 it should be nice testing this one. We did. But using xcompmgr is complicated and can fail. There's a big problem using some apps with it. Try to drag an icon from a window to the desktop and you'll see the flickering. If you do this too many times the Openbox will crash. This is a xcompmgr bug, and its development seems to be stopped. And for using a composite manager we need a nice front-end for configuring it. It was a request from a few users, they told me not to use too many engines (Aurora, Murrine, etc) to keep Lubuntu simple and fast. * The wallpaper is now just a variation from the 10.04 one, according (fully agree) with the "classic" Lubuntu style. * The Openbox theme has been polished a bit (and GTK theme matches aswell). * ...more and amazing changes to come! :) Please, feel free to test and comment / criticize your suggestions. I'm not sure, but I was like you when Lucid arrived. I have a Brother multifunction. Since the removing of HAL the drivers were unable to find correctly the printer, and the solution came directly from Brother. In my case I needed to edit /lib/udev/rules.d/40-libsane.rules ...and put this: # Brother scanners ATTRS{idVendor}=="04f9", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes" Now, "90-local.rules" is no longer a valid file to point USB multifunction devices, and I don't know why. Fully agree, but we must consider not to make the same errors than Puppy and its derivatives. It has a bunch of UGLY applications and a hard way to configure a few things. You cannot add drivers (like HP Scanners or Brother printers). We're in the right way, but we need, obviously, to improve our "product", getting simple and fast. Brasero was my first choice, I noticed my LG re-writer doesn't work with XFBurn. Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] colour scheme
About the palette I had "formal instructions" from Canonical, due to patent issues. It seems that Lubuntu name was registered by "the Company" and, in prevission of these kind of things (even when Kubuntu wasn't released), they published a hard graphical guide about "possible derivatives". They didn't know that Ubuntu "exploded", a few months after with customized distros. But if we want to keep in the family, and not being an "orphan" distro, we have to keep their recommendations. But the additional artwork items are another things. You can put a green wallpaper, or purple, or even black, while keeping design lines and respect to the original artwork (Lubuntu is a derivative from Ubuntu, and its artwork is a derivative too). And sorry, yes, we're in Artwork Freeze as well as Feature Freeze status. The popularity about a theme was made through the mailing lists, extracted from the Lubuntu Artwork Wiki pages. If anyone doesn't trust me or Julien Lavergne (and others) about the decission, I can make a list with names and their votes, received in my inbox. [Lubuntu-desktop] new logo
It's not definitive, but look at Xubuntu new logo: The new line consists on a typographic part ("ubuntu", "xubuntu" or whatever) and a sign part, with the embedded logo of the desktop, in this case the XFCE mouse. We cannot put the circle with the bird logo. Only main edition (Ubuntu with Gnome desktop) can do it. But for legal reasons, they can't (or doesn't want to) put the Gnome footprint logo. I don't know the Kubuntu one will be. I don't publuish the SVG source because it's not legal yet. When art discussions will finish I'll do, for keeping the standards.
