[Lubuntu-desktop] Netbook Mode Broken in 11.10? and Where is LightDM?

2011-10-16 Thread WANG, Xiaoyun
Hi, all,

I just upgraded my netbook to lubuntu 11.10 and I found I can not log
in in lubuntu Netbook mode. Is it broken or did I miss something?

Originally, I intended to upgrade from 11.04 with mounted alternate cd
iso. I encountered an error of something like "flash downloader
failed" and the upgrade process terminated abruptly. When I rebooted
the PC afterwards, I saw new 11.10 splash screen but I was not able to
log in. At that time, I thought I had broken something because of the
unsuccessful upgrade. Therefore, I installed the new release again to
the original partition with a USB disk. The installation went smoothly
and when I tried to log in, I found that I was able to log in in LXDE
or lubuntu mode, but not lubuntu Netbook mode. I was wondering whether
it is broken in this release or there is something wrong because of my
previous upgrade failure?

Another question is I thought this release will use LightDM instead of
LXDM, but I still see LXDM and it seems LightDM is not installed at
all. Did I miss something? I'm looking forward to switching to LightDM
as I want to keep more than 1 user logged in in the netbook
simultaneously and LXDM does not let me do so.

Thanks in advance for any comment.

Hi, Andrew and Gabriel,

Thank you very much for the reply. gnome-media should be a familiar
option because it also exists on my Ubuntu desktop, but I will check
what other options can do. The audio is currently working and it seems
the problem was the speaker was put to mute although the volume
control icon indicated otherwise.

Cheers!

[Lubuntu-desktop] Howto Configure Audio Output

2011-10-07 Thread WANG, Xiaoyun
Hi, all,

I was wondering how I can configure the audio output on my current
lubuntu 11.04. It had been working fine through the built-in speaker
of my netbook(ASUS 1005PXD) since my installation. For the past few
days, I've been using a wireless headphone to watch video via Gnome
Mplayer. Today, when I want to revert back to the built-in speaker, I
can not find a way to do it. Currently, the sound can not be heard
when Audacious or Gnome Mplayer is playing back something. Moreover, I
am not able to find a way to configure the global audio output from
the default programs.

Your hints will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I remember seeing this error message once when my netbook was
improperly powered off. The OS was Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.10 at that
time. I did an fsck on the harddrive to correct all errors and after
that, the OS booted back to normal GUI.
