the problem but, I doubt we'll ever know such are the vagaries for computers,
and not just with Linux. I now have a machine that doesn't recognise Windows
98 XP boot disks but boots with any Linux distro I throw at it.

As you can see from the attached pic. mtpaint is showing a generic icon in the
Task Bar Window List. The icon is correct elsewhere. Not sure what to record
a bug against. Galculator also does this as well.

Probably due to changes in memory management in the kernel. Unless it has a
detrimental effect I wouldn’t worry about it. In fact it may be helping the
battery as the more 'stuff' in memory means less disk access.

Not got permissions to use external drives. Using users-admin 'Advanced
Setting' doesn’t work, no authentication dialogue appears. So unable to alter
permissions.
