Hiyas everyone,

After a rather marathon session jmarsden with some commenting in our chat he
has pretty much proof read everything. Please do take a little time to check
it, as we were both getting tired.

@JasonO ensure you have plenty of magazines / comic books tucked into your
trousers for when you get the cane! I will forward you the log once I have
finally gotten to my alcove. I'm sure it will assist you in your goal of
learning more about admin / wiki / documentation.

Phill.

[Lubuntu-desktop] wiki pages

2011-04-29 Thread Phill Whiteside
Hiyas everyone,

all the reports point to an excellent 11.04, congratulations everyone!

As some of you are aware I've been helping several teams, whilst I had a
decent 'bank' of admins this was never a problem, but a few have fallen off
due to Real Life issues. Hearing last night that a 2nd team had also lost
their Team Leader for about 3 months has really put my already depelted
admin gang under even greater pressure. I humbly apologise that I have been
'fire-fighting' instead of being more pro-active with lubuntu. Lubuntu is my
home, but S.O.S. calls are those which I cannot refuse.

Any way, with the usual help of the excellent people on Lubuntu, the 11.04
is safely on my server area and I have spent several hours updating the
official wiki area. But my eyes are now tired, so would a few willing
volunteers go and check what mistakes I have made. It is over at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu Simply take your time and ensure
things like the checksums for md5's are correct on explanations, they blur
on me when I am trying to transfer over from the old doc area the full help
files onto our 'official' area. I have 2 weeks holiday from next Thursday,
so any things that need doing that you excellent people can not do, please
just email me and I will get them done.

My kindest regards,

Phill.

Hiyas Lubuntueers,

can you go and proof read all of
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation and let us
know if there are any bits not working. Then we can set up the auto
divert from the old area and 'comply' with the documentation rules for
help pages.

I have just had a quick look over it all and from what I can tell Zach
has done a great job. I had a couple of links I fixed up (which I
think I originally changed incorrectly) and I have fixed up the
"Contact Us" link in the header so it points to the wiki contact us. I
did look into making a separate help.ubuntu contact us page but then
the sublinks and things got a bit messy.

Please double and triple check it all and great work Zach.

I'll certainly look it all over just one more time Jared, and thanks for
the compliment Phill, you know it's not needed. It is my pleasure to
work with you guys and I'm honored by the way you do things. Let's
continue shall we?

All the links appear to point in the right direction and, apart from the Remove
old kernels page all appears OK. I have followed the instructions as I
reinstalled Lubuntu to a machine this afternoon.
I’ll have a go at writing a 'Remove old kernels using Synaptic' page over
Christmas. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a setting in Synaptic where you
could specify the No of kernels you wished to keep :)

The only remaining problem I can see is the inconsistent use of capital letters
in headings.

I’m not sure suggesting removing two out of three kernels is a good idea.

Not gone through it all yet but most of the links appear to go where they’re
supposed to. Corrected a few typos and found the following problems or what I
consider to be problems in some cases. Fell free to discuss.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation/CheckCD
Could do with an explanation about where to find the hashes for each release.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation/RemoveOldKernels
I’m not sure suggesting removing two out of three kernels is a good idea. I
think you should retain two kernel versions just in case an update borks one.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation/AlternateInstall
Update Lubuntu link doesn’t go to the correct page.

Well done all concerned I know what a pain documentation is.

Where would you like the problems reporting? On the list? or should I
