Hi all,
Why is still R version 2.15.2 in the repositories? Today version 3.0.1 is
available and I tried to download and install it from
http://cran.rstudio.com/ . However, I do not get the same functionality as
with the similar version installed under Microsoft Windows, so I presently
run R under
Dear everybody,
I'm trying to format an external harddrive (Seagate Backup Plus 4 TB) with
parted. When doing so, this results in an error message:
*error fsyncing*/*closing*/dev/sdf: *input*/
*output error*
Both gparted and disk utility did not work either, but parted was the only
program that
Alternatively you can install LibreOffice via the Synaptic Package manager:
search for libreoffice. With LibreOffice you can open .docx documents, and

Dear all,
I used Lubuntu 14.04 for a long time, but last days the dead keys are
suddenly gone.
I checked >Preferences >Lxkeymap and find that the Current keymap is:

When I choose English (US, international with dead keys) and click on

Did anyone have a
Hi Steven,
Thanks for your response. Unfortunately this did not help. However, I found
the solution:
Go to >Preferences >Default applications for LXSession.
Choose Autostart.
Right after the Add button enter: ibus-daemon and click on >Add.
Close the window and reboot the computer, and voilà, it
Dear all,
I have a question about LibreOffice. I put the same question on
libreofficeforum.org about two months ago, but did not get any response yet.
I use Lubuntu 14.04.3 and LibreOffice 5.0.4.2 which is a 'still' version
and therefore said to be stable.

Dear all,
I have quite a lot of icons on my desktop, and I would like to align them
to a grid.
Apparently this looks not difficult, just right click on the desktop,
choose: Select all, then right click on a icon and choose: snap to grid.
However, when I reboot, the alignment has been made

Dear all,
I installed Lubuntu on a Toshiba Satellite M35X-S349. This is a laptop with
a Centrino processor. First I installed Lubuntu 14.04. In the installation
menu I entered the following command:
file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd.lz quiet

Dear all,
I would like to install Lubuntu 18.04 on an external Solid State Drive.
This works well, but I would like to encrypt the drive as well. When
installing from an USB stick with the live version, at certain point I have

Hi Nio,
Thanks for the quick answer.
Do I need to remove other internal drives physically, or is it sufficient
to disable them in the BIOS in some way?

After getting back the Status Notifier Plugin I ran this.
Then I logged out and logged in and it was solved.

Dear all,
I installed the Lubuntu live version on a USB stick using Startup Disk
Creator. Next I would like to install 'normal' Lubuntu on another USB
device (or SDD), using the live version. I did the following:
1) I disconnected all the hard drives and the DVD drive in my (desktop)
computer.
