By the way, there was a lutenist (ca. 1600) at the Wuerttemberg court named, not Bernhard, but Georg Hofstetter. There is a piece by him in the Donaueschingen MS G.1.4 (now in Stuttgart???), on folio 46v. The name is written in Hebrew script. There's an article about him in the New Grove

If you want to small humidifier for the lute case try a cigar store. They have simple devices that can be stuck to the lid of a case (and are designed for a cigar or pipe tobacco humidor). My big question now is...How does one feed the wood so it's not so dried out and stuff? I am pretty sure
