Dear G. C. Kaleido,
Luther did indeed play the lute and some chorals from the core repertoire of
the protestant church are ascribed to him, but if you ever come upon any
mentioning of a lute book from his hands, be sure that it's a fraud.
I do not know about any collected edition of

Why does

Dear list,
does anybody have information about what has happened to the lute maker
Andreas von Holst in Munich? His website is down, someone told me that
mails sent to him bounce back, and that he has not let something heard
of him for a year or so.
Best wishes,

Dear Monica,
isn't that an aria in L'Erismena?

Dear Herbert,
it might be worthwhile to check the position of your thumb. If it tends to be
in a position opposite the index finger while playing the lute, you can save

Dear Howard, dear list,
there is a version (certainly not an intabulation in the strict sense) in
manuscript editions to Vallet prints in Solothurn/Switzerland, under the title

Dear Martin,
you can shove tablature and rhythm signs to either side and to a certain
extent. It is possible to hide signs, at least in a mensural staff, but I have
only used this possibility when writing down music where voices enter and leave
freely.

Joachim
Dear Bob, dear Arto, dear list,
Arto is perfectly right, and: it's all over the earlier repertoire for the
six-course lute that you need the octaves, at least occasionally, ;)
The overall sound of the instrument also profits a lot from the octave strings.
Sometimes I have heard people say that

Dear Allan, dear list,
Minkoff reprints have been made available again a few years ago after their
remaining stock (including the facsimile of the Thesaurus Harmonicus by Besard)
was discovered in Basel. These news seem not to have made it around to
everyone, so a few words may be ok here.
And from someone who has just returned after a absence of several years (trop
de travail, pas de temps): thanks, Wayne!
