I have got this problem sorted.
In Excel you use Shift+Edit to copy the graph as a picture
You paste the picture into Powerpoint
Right click on the picture in Power point and Save picture as a .wmf
The .wmf can then be pasted into lyx with high quality.

Because LyX cannot possibly accommodate all layouts. That's why we add
what we need.
Did you run texhash, then (from within LyX)

styles? You need to do it before using LyX layout.You can find them

mathematical documents using texmacs, I wanted to convert them to the lyx
format so that I can edit them in lyx, to do this I exported them from
