I think the way to deal with this problem is to use is GNU Stow.It
puts foreign programs right out of the way of your package manager.
This makes it simple to have new and old versions co-exist. I think
it is a much better solution than checkinstall which attempts to
integrate the new program

tortoise's age. As I review a presentation created in 2007 I see that the
navigation links along the lower right of each slide are not visible.
They're apparently there since I can click in that region and move to the
