That must be a big clue - can you create a brand new user

Am I just out of luck and must just by hand re-make

I wasn't suggesting you switch to gentoo !! :) Please do stay away.
And the option to save as OpenDocument was from somebody
running linux (ubuntu). So my confusion is growing.

Is there some package I need to install that will
add this option to my Lyx menu? I do have export to rtf and html ... but
no OpenDocument. I agree this would be very useful.

e, add
this to your document preamble: "\newcommand{\bb}{\\}" and then
use \bb to break your math formulas - this does seem to have some
weird formatting side effects under some conditions however.)

(also gentoo) the same

Is this just debugging code or something slowing down

Apologies for replying to myself, but in case others are
wondering. Lyx works with endheads just fine *if*
works perfectly.
Is there anyway to globally replace the lyx footnote insertions with
"\endnote" ERTs? I'm sorry I'm so new to lyx. I don't even know
how to *search* for footnotes in a lyx document, let alone perform
operations on them.

How do you set the default paragraph alignment to left
justified (ragged right)? You can change individual paragraphs
so they display (and print) with left justified paragraphs,
but I want my documents to default to this.
You can add "\raggedright" to the beginning of a
document, but that doe
